RHD's Latest Top 150 Roto Prospects ("End-of-Season" Edition)

Here's the latest list (previous list from 7/7/22). 33 new names and lots of movement.

The usual litany: I generally follow BA's prospect eligibility requirements, which are <=130 MLB AB or <=50 MLB IP. Unlike BA tho, amateurs, unsigned draftees and foreign players are eligible. Also, while BA has a different IP limit for relievers (30 IP?), relievers are eligible as long as they dont have >50 IP. As usual, this is for roto, not 'real' baseball, so pitchers are downgraded some, catchers downgraded somewhat (unless they're elite prospects and their bat will play at any position), actual closers are upgraded a lot, SB guys who project to get playing time get upgraded some, and guys who either currently are or project to soon be regulars can get upgraded quite a bit. Position listed is their current primary one to the best of my knowledge (correct me if I'm wrong), not the one they're likely to end up at.

I'm pleased w the interaction I got on the last list. Well over 13000 views, which is by far the most ever, and 68 replies, which also is far more than usual.

I have Austin Martin, so I'm glad you have him in your top 100 still, but I can't say I am not also surprised. The steals are there, but his total lack of power and lack of development as a hitter even at 23 in AA has me concerned he ends up a bust. Do you think he starts hitting the ball more and harder, eventually, or do you think his speed will be enough to carry him to being a major leaguer?

Joey Wiemer is a guy I may regret trading, but I am also surprised by how high you have him. What attracted me to him initially was the sexy power/speed combo, but most evaluators don't have him too high, which I assume has to do with his contact issues. What about him makes you look past those and see a top 50 prospect?

Finally, how close were Matthew Lugo and Blake Walston to your top 150?

Walston is on the list at #127 . Lugo is a bit further down at #253.

BA rated Martin the #2 player in the 2020 draft, the #19 overall prospect in 2021 and the #47 overall prospect pre-season this year. He was considered one of the best pure hitters in the draft and even if there were concerns about his power and defensive position, everyone was convinced he would hit. He not only has displayed almost no power, this year he hasnt hit either. He completely dropped off both BA's and MLB's mid-season top 100 lists, altho he is #87 on FG's updated list that came out yesterday. But it's hard for me to believe that the experts could have been this wrong about him. He has excellent plate discipline, above-average bat speed and there's that SB potential, too. He had an elbow injury this year which could be part of the reason for the poor performance. He just seems like a pretty good post-hype candidate to me. Even if he isnt projected to be an all-star now, he still seems like a good candidate to be a solid MLB regular and so I think he still deserves a spot near the back of my list. He reminds me of Dustin Ackley and altho we know how that turned out I think he can have a better MLB career than Ackley.

Wiemer would seem to project to be a MLB regular and altho he has swing and miss issues both the power and the speed are real which makes him enticing in roto. And he's steadily gotten better as he's progressed thru the minors. Until the contact issues start to affect his performance, I think I'll continue to rank him higher than he is on non-fantasy lists.

Thanks for the response, and oops on missing Blake! Ackley is a great comp for Martin. Martin, like Ackley, seemed so "can't miss" coming into the draft. I hope you are right that he figures it out.

I am in 2 Only 5x5 keeper leagues. 12 teams with a 13 man bench. Prospects are very important.

This thread is one of the best tools I have in preparation for Draft Day. This includes off season trading targets.

You're welcome, Gregg! Glad that you find it useful. Btw, even tho I put so much time into maintaining the list, right after I posted this, I immediately disliked one section of it and started moving players around. No matter how much time I put into it, it still doesnt look right. But at some point you just have to call it a day and post what you have.

To me, his main problem is that he keeps getting injured. When he's healthy, he produces and he was doing pretty well in MLB before he got hurt. According to RW, he's likely to be out about 12 months after his surgery in June, so it doesnt look like he'll be ready to start the season. Still looks like an excellent prospect to me when healthy, which is why I have him ranked as high as I do. BA hung a 60 FV on him pre-season, albeit w a lot of risk. It is somewhat concerning that he's torn the same ACL twice. Also, there is the question of where he plays w the Twins since they have Correa at SS (so maybe OF?), so when he comes off the DL he could be back in AAA.

Pretty sure Correa will opt out of his remaining 2 years. He would have only stayed if he fell on his face, but with his strong finish to the season, I think he's gone.

Sosa is at #227 rt now. Bryce Miller is much farther down the list. I'm not aware of anyone that has listed Miller as a top prospect.
