  • From Cash Me Ousside to Riches

I was today year's old when I learned the delinquent girl from the Dr. Phil show a few years ago whose insane antics and severely affected accent led to many memes cashed in on the experience to become a rapper, open an OnlyFans account as soon as she turned 18, and become one of the highest paid internet personalities in the world, surpassing most movie and sports stars, making $50 million on OnlyFans. She has recently been invited to speak at Oxford Union, one of the most respected debate platforms in the world: https://boingboing.net/2022/09/19/ca...niversity.html

Dr. Phil is a tool, his show was toxic, and he sent kids to camps that did not help them and potentially hurt them, but I can't help but feel old, out of touch, and just dumbfounded by how someone with so little talent can get so far so fast for no reasons I can discern or comprehend. Not that someone young can't be a prodigy worthy of success. Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstien when she was 20, inventing/redefining two of the most popular literary genres to this day--horror and sci fi novels. But even she did not get the kind of attention and no where near the money that "Bhad Bhabie" has gotten. "Cash me Ousside, how bow dah," indeed. What. A. World. And here is a link to the start of this 21st century Horatio Alger story:

Then again, she is in the same society that elected Trump, who is currently making a big deal about where he would have been seated at the Queen's funeral, and wanted his followers "to cash his VP ousside" for not overturning our democracy, so on second thought, this is par for the course of this country. Heck, this girl might be president one day.

Tik Tok, Snap Chat, You Tube, Instagram, etc., etc. Today's media isn't as much about substance as it was in the past--Quite a bit of it is momentary, used to illicit response rather than provoke thought. My youngest daughter is 21 and I'm sure would love a career as an influencer, not that she doesn't want to accomplish anything (She's going to school for her RN certification) but the allure of fame and fortune appeals to so many young people today. I recently told her 'Life isn't a TV show, you don't need to be recording everything' and her response was--Yes, it is.

This seemingly pervasive mindset plus the age old fact that Porn has always been a money maker, it's no wonder so many people looking for quick riches turn to platforms like OnlyFans.

The Cash me girl's fortunes doesn't surprise me, it just throws another log on the fire of my cynicism towards the future of this country.
If I whisper my wicked marching orders into the ether with no regard to where or how they may bear fruit, I am blameless should a broken spirit carry those orders out upon the innocent, for it was not my hand that took the action merely my lips which let slip their darkest wish. ~Daniel Devereaux 2011

Bhad Bhabie isn't a terrible artist though. She just used Dr. Phil and being meme'd to launch her career, and it turned out to be a pretty brilliant move. The onlyfans play was incredibly smart. Doja Cat used to give that personal (video chatting) content away for free, so Brigoli getting $50 mil for it is super brilliant. Dr. Phil is a much worse human than Danielle Brigoli, of that I'm 100% certain. So I root for her. Haven't been too into her music, but I recognize that she's targeted the Rico Nasty type of audience, and I think she's done a good job with it.

This one is from 5 years ago. Pretty good for a 14 year old!

Larry David was once being heckled, long before any success. Heckler says "I'm taking my dog over to fuck your mother, weekly." Larry responds "I hate to tell you this, but your dog isn't liking it."

I see that as a child continuing to be exploited, and I don't think it is good/worthy of its view count, although it is well (overly) produced. I can't help but cringe at how much some folks can cash in for, especially when contrasted with how much most hard-working folks make. The economy of scale is a heck of a thing. You can blow up big. It is no wonder so many young people dream of being an influencer/internet personality. I certainly can't blame her for cashing in. Again, I agree that Phil McGraw is a tool and his show is a trash pile, but being on it ended up being the best thing to happen to her. There is no way she would have become a multi-millionaire without her appearance on that show.

I just love how Dr. Phil profits from exploitation and she flipped the script on him. Like the time Dr. Phil invited the creator of bum fights onto the show to shame him for his business and the guy showed up in a Dr. Phil costume. It's all the same game.

Also, I thought this was pretty bhad-ass. From her sex work windfall, she's giving out $1.7 mil in scholarships. No chump change.

To paraphrase P.T. Barnum, there are a lot of idiots walking around with money in their pockets, and if you can get a small fraction of them interested in what you are selling even if only for a minute, you will become wealthy.

This is just like grassroots fundraising for politicians with small contributions made by millions of people. Only this is people making a contribution in exchange for entertainment.

Agree completely with this. And credit to her, once she realized how big that train wreck of a show was (I actually had to listen to it; I was with my MIL for a doctor's appointment and they wouldn't change the damn channel!), she figured out awfully quickly how to capitalize on it.

As a musician, I think she's awful. As an entrepreneur, clearly, she's very, very savvy.
