  • Midterm Election Thread

A couple of things I saw yesterday:

    - for the 1st time in a long while, the Dems are winning on the Generic Congressional Ballot, and by wide margin, likely thanks to the off the rails Supreme Court. Marist/PBS/NPR poll had it Dems +7. Just one poll, sure, but nearly every single one over the last 6-8 months was GOP +3 to +10. Roe v. Wade has backfired big time, and it's motivating the base to do something.

    - another focus group pollster had meetings with GOP/Trump voters and for the first time since 2016, she said not a SINGLE participant wanted Trump to run in 2024. Not one. She said reasons varied from Trump fatigue to being tired of the endless babble over the Big Lie to fears he would lose if he ran again. DeSantis is the big elephant in the room now.

Depends on which polls you are looking at. Morning Consult shows +3 for Democrats. Trafalgar a +10 for the Republicans and of course they are very biased towards Republicans. Another biased Republican group Rasmussen shows a +8. Trump is toxic and I hope he runs because he would divide the Republicans maybe even start a new party. DeSantis is very smart and I think he has a good chance to get the nomination but it still very early. He is to me more scary than Trump. Interesting fact. Both Trump and DeSantis claim Florida as their home. That would drive Republican Floridians nuts.

Yup, DeSantis is far more scary because he is very competent.

PA Democratic Senate candidate John Fetterman enlisted Snooki to help him ridicule his opponent Dr. Oz for living in New Jersey and running for office in Pennsylvania:

Honestly, it's just sad that this is all Democrats can post about. It's been almost 3 months since a post in the Joe Biden thread. I guess this what we can enjoy while the world goes to hell.

EDIT: actually really hard to watch that and think it is helpful in any way. Maybe there is a huge Snooki following that will help in the next election. I sure hope so

Candidates (and voters) have to have a little bit of fun along the way or they will go insane.

I was just in Scranton, PA and exited on the Joseph Biden Expressway and then turned onto Biden Street. He’s making things happen.

lol. I'm just an old grouchy dude apparently. I just can't understand the current political situation, except I understand who is winning and who isn't. and celebrities don't make me feel better about it.

Fetterman is actually running a good campaign on a progressive platform. He needs to reach the dumb dumb voters too though, so Snooki delivers on that front. I can't bring myself to watch the clip, but I understand why his team is doing that kind of outreach.
Larry David was once being heckled, long before any success. Heckler says "I'm taking my dog over to fuck your mother, weekly." Larry responds "I hate to tell you this, but your dog isn't liking it."

I just wish there were more progress and accomplishments to focus on.

Exactly. Unfortunately, a lot of uneducated young voters care more about the look of the candidate than their political ideas. I view it as a campaign strategy similar to Bill Clinton appearing on Arsenio Hall's late night talk show and playing the saxophone. I remember hearing young people back in the early 90's saying they were voting for Clinton because he seems like a really cool guy. I wouldn't be surprised if we see more politicians using the Cameo celebrity video messages in the future.

I wonder what percentage of young voters could pass a civic exam?

Probably not much different than old voters.

Here's some of Fetterman's progressive messaging, which I find very persuasive.

Too bad your dogshit President is clueless on the issue. Fetterman is running as a populist, and that's what you need to do in this age of endless culture wars that the Dems are getting crushed on.
