  • AL: Trade for which pitcher?

Really need a good starting pitcher in the AL (5x5).

I can acquire $17 Sonny Gray by giving up $18 Eugenio Suarez.
Might be able to get Frankie Montas $26 for a package deal, possibly headlined by Trevor Story $34.

Need Ks and Wins. Do I jump on the Gray deal? Or do I try for the Montas deal (because Story looks broken)? Gray probably a better bet for wins, maybe less so for Ks but he’s no slouch.

    Thanks for help and input.

Agree. I kind of like one for one deals that are fair and make sense for both parties.

Long term I wouldn't worry about Wins for Montas as he'll surely be traded sometime soon... right?

Counting on post trade deadline wins is a fallacy in my opinion. There are so many pitfalls. A) There's a lot of games to be played until then B) Will he actually get traded? C) Getting wins from starting pitchers even on a good team is far from a given.

Bigger Q: Would you lose Montas if he goes to the NL???

Would not lose Montas until after the season if traded to NL. But not sure if his owner will budge. Reason I like that one is dumping Story, but maybe I shouldn’t worry.

It seems like you are in a hurry to sell Story low. Are you thinking his value dips down further than it is right now?

He's definitely struggling but if I had Story I'd be wanting to at least wait until he gets hot to try to get something better in return.
