    Predictions?

    Concerns?

    Preparations?

Predictions: Second degree manslaughter. The jury pretends to believe he only has love in his heart for everyone and he was just doing his job, albeit, recklessly.

Concerns: business as usual and we get right back to killing black people

    Preparations: stay white.

I'm going to go with the trifecta, headlined by 2nd degree murder. I can't say I would be surprised for a lesser charge (heyelander may very well be right--probably will be right), but I think it is the appropriate conviction in this case. I think it is clear that Chauvin's 9 minute restraint of a handcuffed Floyd was unreasonable, beyond the scope of his training, and was intentionally inflicted in a manner that was likely to cause substantial bodily harm (the 2nd degree verdict does not require intention to kill or even intent to inflict substantial bodily harm, as a 1st degree murder verdict would).

The only thing I'd be really shocked and appalled by is if even the manslaughter charge does not stick, but I think at bare minimum, it will. All that is needed for that is that Chauvin acted in a negligent manner that created unreasonable risk leading to Floyd's death. I cannot fathom how anyone could not see his actions as rising above that low bar.

I foresee a hung jury, mistrial or something that leads to NO verdict.

If anything less than a murder conviction comes down, there will be protests--if he gets off entirely or there's no conviction at all, the Rodney King riots will look tame in comparison with accompanied Militia pushback.

        Stay Home.

PS--If he's convicted I wouldn't rule out the Proud Oath Militia Keeper Boys from making some noise, it is, after all, the anniversary of their Hero Timmy OK McVeigh.

Well, this is not good--the judge saying that Waters comments gives ground for an appeal and for the whole trial being overturned. My hope that we would have some kind of resolution soon have been dashed. The judge in the case just validated an appeal publicly, so one is most assuredly coming, assuming there is a conviction, even though I am not clear how comments made by someone in the media prejudices the jury when they are not supposed to pay attention to the media coverage: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/polit...sRb?li=BBnb7Kz

The California Democratic congresswoman, who has long been a lightning rod, was already facing a torrent of criticism from Republicans for her comments over the weekend urging protesters in Minnesota to “get more confrontational” if Chauvin is not convicted, with several GOP lawmakers calling for Waters' expulsion from Congress.

Chauvin's lawyer asked the judge to declare a mistrial over Waters' comments, arguing that she had prejudiced the jury. Judge Peter Cahill denied the request, but said that Waters' comments were "abhorrent" and that she may have handed the defense a lifeline anyway.

"I'll give you that Congresswoman Waters may have given you something on appeal that may result in this whole trial being overturned," Cahill said as arguments in the case concluded Monday and the jury began deliberations.

This and the whiney defense lawyer saying the fact he felt belittled deserved a mistrial. I'm tellin ya.

Wouldn't surprise me at all. But somebody needs to tell Maxine to follow her own advice and shut up.

Disagree, there will be a verdict, the evidence was fairly overwhelming, and the defense was fairly ineffective. I suspect that they'll be back at some point tomorrow, although trying to predict what a jury will do is a fools errand. I I feel uniquily qualified. I suspect it'll be 2nd degree murder, but they could drop it to a lesser charge.

Mary Moriarty is a great twitter follow, she a former public defender with 31 years in the office. She breaks things down and explains them in a layman's fashion.

And Minneapolis is an armed camp right now...thousands of National guardsmen and outstate cops brought in to keep everything under control.

I agree with Horns. We will have a conviction. I anticipate the second-degree murder, but nothing less than the third-degree charge.

The Twin Cities is heavily patrolled with National Guard seemingly at every corner in Minneapolis. They are bringing in police from other states, as well. Either they have great intel that there are going to be lots of rioting, or they are being overly proactive. I disagree with the heavy militarized policing, as it sets a bad standard, but if they have information in hand to say the need is there, I can tolerate it.

As for Maxine Waters, she's a freakin' troll, and Judge Cahill's comments about her lack of respect for a co-equal branch of government is absolutely spot on! Waters comments are no more helpful than Rep. Greene. Gat rid of both of them.

I have to disagree with your comparison of Waters and Greene. None of us white folks know what it's like to be a Person of Color in America. She's right--if there's no conviction or if the trial/verdict somehow get overturned/abated...they need to take their protests to the next level. Comparing someone you can't begin to understand in waters to Greene who's a fucking whackadoo--is just--well incorrect.

A verdict has been reached...should be read in the court between 3:30 and 4:00 pm central.

I think that there will be protests no matter how the verdict come out. Too many people want to take to the streets no matter what happens. But i do think that a guilty verdict is the best thing for us as an are, a state, and a nation.

Fingers crossed it's the one that will provoke the least violence. Stay safe...
