I got a phishing email the other day that got my attention (as an IT guy I typically don't even notice these anymore).

But this one had my username and an old password I used to use in the subject line.

From there it was typical ransomware bs - he had hacked my system & has images of me accessing various porn sites, and I was to send an amount of bitcoin to an address, ... all bull ... but man, it had my password!

I did a bit of research - it's likely a result of a hack of one of the big sites from a long time ago; I'd guess that the password that they had was one I haven't used since around 2006-ish. But it definitely got my attention.

So moral to the story - change your passwords regularly, and try to not use the same password for everything - if somebody hacks into walmart.com & gets your info you sure don't want it to be the same password you use for your paypal account.

    Stay safe!
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

I was at a golf outing these past few days and yesterday morning the host got one of these. It was asking for $3200.00. It had his correct password for a couple of accounts of his. Said if he didn't pay it would send images of his history of having "fun" on adult sites to his work place and family.

This reminds me of a Black Mirror episode:
