I got a phishing email the other day that got my attention (as an IT guy I typically don't even notice these anymore).
But this one had my username and an old password I used to use in the subject line.
From there it was typical ransomware bs - he had hacked my system & has images of me accessing various porn sites, and I was to send an amount of bitcoin to an address, ... all bull ... but man, it had my password!
I did a bit of research - it's likely a result of a hack of one of the big sites from a long time ago; I'd guess that the password that they had was one I haven't used since around 2006-ish. But it definitely got my attention.
So moral to the story - change your passwords regularly, and try to not use the same password for everything - if somebody hacks into walmart.com & gets your info you sure don't want it to be the same password you use for your paypal account.
Stay safe!
