I dont disagree that this is essentially the DNC covering their own behinds in a more "official" manner. If Bernie were to run, would he be a legitimate 3rd party candidate?
We can only hope that Bernie stays to his principles and say, "FU DNC! I don't need you." He would definitely be a viable 3rd Party candidate. He could be the catalyst to opening up opportunity for more parties to be involved in government.
I'm feelin' the Bern in 2020!

i have epiphanies like that all the time. for example i was watching a basketball game today and realized pom poms are like a pair of tits. there's 2 of them. they're round. they shake. women play with them. thus instead of having two, cheerleaders have four boobs. - nullnor, speaking on immigration law in AZ.
If Bernie were to run as a 3rd party independent, he'd essentially guarantee the Republican nominee a victory. So I'd much prefer to have him pursue the Democratic Party nomination and be given a fair shake. While I didn't back him in 2016, I view his positions as generally aligned with Democratic Party positions and broad principles, and therefore see no good reason to deny him the opportunity to make his case to Democratic primary voters. This rule change may have been intended to twist his nipples a little bit, but it wouldn't appear to preclude him from pursuing the Democratic nomination. He presumably would just need to change his voter registration to Democratic (if he's not already so-registered) and declare that he would accept the Party's nomination and serve in Presidential office as a Democrat.
Intersting perspective. In the prior election there were many on the Dem side that made the general statement in defense of the HRC win, that Bernie really shouldnt be on the ticket because he is a socialist and not really a Democrat. So has Bernie moved more centrist or has the party moved further left? I dont have time to find the thread or your comment about not being comfortable with certain candidates that the DNC is putting up - is your party leaving you?
It is wrong and ultimately self-defeating for a nation of immigrants to permit the kind of abuse of our immigration laws we have seen in recent years and we must stop it.

I wasn't posting on RotoJunkie during the 2016 election cycle and don't think I've ever argued that Bernie shouldn't be the nominee because he's not really a Democrat. I'm a free trader, I generally support keeping military options on the table to address security threats, and I actually like Common Core, so there are issues that tend to push me off of the furthest left leaning candidates in a Democratic primary, but I've always viewed the Democratic Party as having a pretty wide band of folks from center or even slightly right of center all the way to pretty far left wing, and I prefer to keep them all in the Party rather than casting them off. Let primary voters decide who they feel best meets their desires for the Party and the presidency.

LOL! I will stay with my Libertarians. While there are some intriguing ideas from the Berner's - I dont trust government enough to let them try and run it.

Colorado governor John Hickenlooper just returned from the Bilderberg conference in Turin. Assuming he kissed all the right rings and passed his audition, there's your Democratic presidential nominee for 2020.

He makes as much sense as most of the candidates forewarded thus far and more than many.

Heh. The Shroud of Turin might have been worn by a person who was resurrected, but Hickenlooper would need an even bigger miracle to be the 2020 nominee.

Think you might be onto something here, Sheep. As the field begins to narrow, a pragmatic guy like Hickenlooper is going to be a lot of different Democratic groups second choice, which may be enough.
At least as far getting good value in the predictive markets, he’s as good a play as anyone.
