  • RHD's Top 150 Roto Prospects - Write-ups #121-#150

Francisco Peguero - Another big SB guy who needs much better plate discipline. Has some power, too.
J.D. (Julio) Martinez - No outstanding tool but seems to do everything well. Will have to prove he's more than a 4th OFer-type.
Juan Francisco - Has some of the biggest power in the minors. Plate discipline has always been a problem, and defensive position is another issue. But he should get some MLB ABs this year and BA rates him above Frazier.
Todd Frazier - Another Reds' corner IF/OF hopeful. Both Frazier and Francisco are pretty much blocked in Cincy.
Bobby Borchering - Highly rated coming out of college. Has had solid but unspectcular stats so far and may not stick at 3B.
Trevor May - The 3rd highly-rated Philly pitcher. K rate was one of the best in the minors, but needs much better control.
Andrew Oliver - Projects as a 3rd-starter type. Will he crack the Det rotation out of ST?
Chad James - Hi ERA and walk rate but good K-rate and he was young for his league.
Jaff Decker - Injuries really slowed him in 1st half but hit like usual in 2nd half. Another bat-first guy.
Thomas Neal - 2010 stats werent nearly as good as 2009's but still solid. BA says his status hasn’t dipped too much.
Matt Harvey - Among the next tier of new pitching draftees that need pro experience.
A.J. Cole - See write-up for Harvey, above.
Kaleb Cowart - Highly rated new draftee. Bad stats in limited ABs doesn’t deter experts. Was BA's HS player of the year.
Starling Marte - Got a very favorable report from BA so he's back on the list. Actually, his report makes him sound like a potential 5-tool candidate. Has excellent speed so good SB potential.
Jake Marisnick - Another highly-rated prospect out of the 2009 draft. Very good SB potential. BA rates him the Jays' best athlete.
Drew Cumberland - Has always had good minor league stats and he's finally getting some recognition now. Good speed but little power.
Arodys Vizcaino - Another candidate for the crowded future Atl rotation (Hudson, Lowe, Hanson, Jurrjens, Minor, Delgado, Beachy, Medlen, Kawakami). Maybe needs another trade.
Robbie Erlin - Very good stats, including K-rate and BB-rate, but undersized and doesn’t throw particularly hard. Will he have similar success as he advances to higher levels?
Liam Hendriks - Great stats and getting some recognition as top prospect candidate now. Was runner-up minors' ERA leader. Has had trouble keeping healthy.
Chris Withrow - Rather rough year in 2010 dips his prospect status. Still not a good BB-rate but still good K-rate.
Tyler Chatwood - Low K-rate but he throws pretty hard so this is expected to get better. Despite being undersized, BA says he could be a top of the rotation guy.
Rubby De La Rosa - Vaulted onto the prospect charts last year. Throws very hard, even touches 100 mph, but uncertain whether he will be a starter.
Marc Krauss - Highly-rated prospect out of the 2009 draft. Good stats, except for plate discipline. Is a bat-first guy.
Greg Halman - After a miserable 2009, he reestablished himself somewhat last year and even earned a callup. A very hi-risk guy, but cant ignore that unique power/speed combo.
Guillermo Pimentel - Very young but very talented. Excellent power potential. Plate discipline needs a ton of work.
J.P. (Jonathan) Arencibia - After the Jays got Napoli, I removed him from this list, then put him back when Napoli was traded again. Cant see J. Molina getting most of the ABs in Toronto, so I figure J.P. will get them, altho T. D'Arnaud is a possibility, too. Offers power potential, but plate discipline has always been a problem.
Christian Yelich - A late addition to this list, Callis described him as having a special bat.
Randall Grichuk - Was drafted in the 1st round and put up excellent stats in pro debut. I was surprised BA didn’t rank him higher. So he qualifies as one of my 'sleepers'.
Hisashi Iwakuma - Has been one of the best pitchers in Japan for a while. Don’t know why Oakland low-balled him on their offer. He'll be a FA next year, so he should be coming to US in 2012.
Alfredo Despaigne - BA says he's the best hitter in Cuba now. I have no idea whether he'll defect or not. He and Iwakuma are interesting enough to be 'stickies' at the back of my list as sleepers, altho they're hard to rank against the other players.
