  • ESPN: Ryan Braun Failed PED Test!

National League MVP Ryan Braun, who last season led the Milwaukee Brewers to their first division title in nearly three decades, has tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug and faces a 50-game suspension if the initial finding is upheld, two sources familiar with the case told "Outside the Lines."

Major League Baseball has not announced the positive test because Braun is disputing the result through arbitration.

A spokesman for Braun issued a statement Saturday: "There are highly unusual circumstances surrounding this case which will support Ryan's complete innocence and demonstrate there was absolutely no intentional violation of the program. While Ryan has impeccable character and no previous history, unfortunately, because of the process we have to maintain confidentiality and are not able to discuss it any further, but we are confident he will ultimately be exonerated."

The 28-year-old Braun had to provide a urine sample for testing during the playoffs, and he was notified of the positive test sometime in late October -- about a month before he was named the National League's most valuable player.

They were all innocent until they got caught.

None of them intentionally violated the program.

      Just another cheating ba$tard.

I guess the LA thug (in some folks minds), should have been the MVP after all...

Yeah, because he just hasn't been caught yet.

Jesus Tim, people accuse me of being a Debbie Downer, but I look like a cockeyed optimist compared to you. Isn't it just possible that Kemp is doing it on natural ability? Much like Barry Bonds did?

Life has changed. We are living in a world where the use of technology is a part of our lives. Some of that technology enhances athletic performance. I am not talking about taking illegal drugs. I am talking about drugs prescribed to help with medical conditions and operations such as Tommy John surgery. Braun is responsible for taking a PED whether he intended to cheat or not but until the facts are in I will withhold judgement on his moral character.

Could be something nefarious, but also could be "took a supplement that he didn't know had a banned substance" or a false positive. Gotta let the truth come out.

I suppose I should have put a after my post. I was just kidding, really.

That said, I think that they have almost ALL used banned substances at one time or another. Braun is my favorite player and it doesn't surprise me one bit he was caught.

It surprises me, not because I think he's an angel or anything, but you almost have to be stupid to get caught with MLB's lame testing program.
I'm just here for the baseball.

Artificial testosterone? How is that supposed to help?

I am disappointed if this ends up being true. Braun is one of my favorite players, and a key part of my championship last year (having Kemp, another one of my favorite players, and the guy Braun robbed of an MVP didn't hurt either).
