So sure, they go sign a has-been POS who walked 17++% of every batter he faced last year to stunt that progression. What an amazing organization. Barlow family, signing off.
Didn't their former GM, Moore, rail against porn to their players and encourage them to avoid it on moral grounds, and now they sign a guy who choked and shot at his girlfriend? Not to mention signing him at a position that blocks a good reliever who seems to be liked by their fans. I don't get spending the money there on him.

Ironic, yes but I'm not sure how Moore's preferences relate to this signing since he's now with Texas.

It was just $3.5mm, in baseball terms this is a free roll.

      • I wouldn't assume that Chapman is the closer. He was that bad last year that he can't assume he's going to close.
I'm unconsoled I'm lonely, I am so much better than I used to be.

        • They are probably hoping to flip him for a prospect at the deadline…

          • Michael Taylor was traded to the Twins for a couple prospects. I think this is a strong indication that Buxton will be the DH for the vast majority of the time, which obviously makes him a lot more attractive at the draft table this year for me.

I don't think that the Twins will take perhaps the best center fielder in the league off the field. What they're preparing for is th almost inevitable injuries that will cost him games. Taylor is an elite fielder who can step in without breaking stride, and also give Buxton more frequent breaks during the season. It's a very smart more to improve their depth with a quality player who can alo hit a bit.

I dont know. I dont think the dropoff defensively is that far from Buxton to Taylor, and the Twins really want to make sure Buxton is always hitting in that lineup. They still have a logjam with Gordon and Farmer, but Gordon can be a super util type with Farmer as depth.

Agree, there are a few logjams, I suspect because their plans changed with the Correa signing. I could see a trade here.

They've been trying to deal Kepler, but they're not satisfied with the offers. I personally don't mind him, pretty good defender and with the shift now (kinda) being a thing of the past, he could be a player with some value.

Oddly enough Kyle Farmer has an option left, so he could actually be sent down until a trade happens. Doubt it though...

                    • Royals re-sign 39 year-old Zack Greinke for 1 year/$8.5 million.

                        • Jake McGee announced his retirement from professional baseball at the age of 36.

After putting up great numbers in 2021, McGee was DFA'd by the Brewers and released by both the Giants and Nationals last season after his ERA more than doubled. Such is the volatility of closers.

                          • Padres sign Yu Darvish to an extension for 6 years /$108 million which includes $30 million for this year. I didn't realize that Darvish will turn 37 years old this season. For some reason I was thinking he was about 5 years younger.

                            • Reds acquire OF Will Benson from the Guardians for OF Justin Boyd and a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Benson is a former first-round pick from the 2016 draft class who hit.279/.426/.522 with 17 homers, 45 RBI and 16 stolen bases in 89 games at Triple-A in 2022.

The 24 year-old Benson could be a post-hype prospect worth keeping an eye on.

I think the Pads forgot to clean their glasses also.
