  • What to do with a ridiculous HR edge?

the night is young, but already I have 4 more HR

    so now it's
    1. ME 85
    2. 62

    12. 51

yes, 11 HR separate 2nd from last - and 23 separate me from 2nd
    but I'm 10th in AVG

    leaders
    Harper 13
    Duvall 9
    Pham 8
    Longoria 8
    Rizzo 6
    Molina 6
    EHernandez 6
    Realmuto 5
    Franchy 5
(Hanson 3 in 33 AB, Willliamson has 3 but I didn't get them. lummox FrReyes his 1st tater tonight, MReynolds his 1st for me.)

I actually offered Harper for Votto last week, which would really help both teams, but it's one of those annoying owners with a draining job and teenagers so....

a lot of AVG drains so far. I only had 3 AVG studs - Pham, Realmuto, and Kendrick. and then there were 2

see prices below. any suggestions? it's a long season, but geesh. 300 HR isn't going to get me any extra standings points. 9 R out of 2nd, 9 RBI out of first. competitive in SB. could use another SP - maybe I look there

right on cue, an also-ran just offered me his lame duck Nick Markakis for my Nick Williams 5-S1 - and my June 15 farm pick

the latter should be around 10th or 11th out of 12, so nobody in anyone's preseason top 75 but a near-ready riser might sneak through

he also offered me Chase Anderson 10-S1 a few weeks ago for the same pick and a bum, basically, but I passed because I figured if Kershaw goes down, I might be dead. both then headed to the DL

    will kick the tires

UPDATE: Reynolds just hit another one. this is crazy. tonight

Phew...if you need BA and R help, I'd go get Markakis. I'm not sure I buy into his big numbers so far, but he's always been a consistent source of BA and Atlanta has some good bats behind him now, too.
I'm just here for the baseball.

        yeah, I did
it's hard to believe, but his underlying stats support this
.343 AVG. .321 xBA (which is crazy good)

my theory is that he already was a solid, disciplined hitter - and he worked in the launch angle stuff
Mets announcer Keith Hernandez is a major fanboy this year, which is interesting

plus for my team with 9 guys on the DL, a guy who racks up 650 PA a year is appealing

this helps my AVG but doesn't address my HR glut. still, getting an AVG upgrade over the late Kendrick makes me more patient in maybe tossing out multiple HR sources later. more important to get at a deficit early than a glut. I'm not overcooked at RBI and R yet, but this trade might help me get there

The obvious child is Adam Duvall. Can you generate any interest in him?

Yeah, him and Longo are the biggest HR-only guys. Though not sure if anyone would be excited to trade for either. I'd look into shopping Rizzo if you can get close to full value for him. I like trading for Markakis, but Nick Williams isn't bad and if that's a valuable farm chip I'm not sure I like that particular deal.

Williams isn't playing much, and frankly last year looked like the outlier. he's talented but seems indifferent. as for the pick, June is the real wild card of selections. hard to say what it is.

Duvall is a lame duck, which doesn't help. he's at .196 but a .255 xBA, so his AVG will climb and he will become more valuable.

agreed on Rizzo; he is overpriced but once he gets rolling, maybe I can add a SP for him. Longoria is perceived as toast, though he isn't quite yet.

                UPDATE:

anyone who thought, "Geesh, JJ is just waving a red cape at the Rotisserie gods with this thread" nearly was Oh So Right

an epic Sept slide left me tied for 1st as of yesterday. here are the top 4 finishes, listing any HR hit today

                235 (me) Rizzo
                234 none
                234 Muncy
                233 Bellinger

so even when you have a 23-HR lead in late May, and even when you're projected to win the category by more than 40 - it's early.

even a slide to 4th here wouldn't have changed my 4th place finish overall, but I plan to learn from this!

(UPDATE: I did acquire Markakis for NWilliams and the June pick, which turned out to be 11th and Diamondbacks SS Matt McLain - who didn't sign. in a later deal, I got McLain as a throw-in - I lose him if he signs with AL next year.)
