HDID: 12 Team AL Only

Because posting my NL team was so much fun

12 team AL only league with 14 hitters and 10 pitchers; normal 5x5 categories except saves + 1/2 hold and a $265 budget. We also require a DH.


I was in a similar situation as my NL team, I won last year so I didn't have a strong keeper list. I kept several people that I knew wouldn't make the team but have good long term potential. Out league has slightly different rules about FAAB players. If you pick someone up for under $10, they become $10 if you want to keep them and you can only keep them for one year. So I feel like it's better to keep a player for $1-$3 that won't make the team but should be up this year. Their salary and contract will be better. Plus, buy skills, not roles; right?

I was able to pick up Cuthbert, Hechavarria and Rua for Diaz, Mondesi and Brantley. I think there is some good value in there but it's a middle of the pack team.

I like this team better than your NL team.

Risks: You need Mondesi sooner rather than later, or you're punting speed. Brantley, of course, is an eternal health risk. Hopefully Boyd will step up, but if not, you'll need to jettison him quickly and move on.

Upside: I really like Delmonico, and I think the White Sox will be pretty patient with him if he struggles at some point. If Karns can stay healthy, he'll be a big boost to your Ks and may even help your ratios. Love the Cano buy at 22. You look very strong in BA, even with Chris Davis.

Opportunities: Hopefully Herrera can notch 5-6 saves in the first 3-4 weeks. I'd look to move him at that point for someone desperate for saves.

When Chris Davis came up for bidding I noticed that my projected BA was .290 and I was lacking in all other stats so I figured I could take the hit and go after him. Then Mauer came along a little while later and that made more sense to pair with Davis.

It's funny, the BaseballHQ projections in RotoLab have my NL team finishing higher than this team.
