  • Brent Honeywell: Uh OH

Dr. James Andrews please pickup the white courtesy phone.

Brent Honeywell has been diagnosed with a right forearm strain.

More tests will have to be run before the Rays have an idea on the full extent of the injury, but the news is already troublesome. Honeywell cut short a bullpen session Thursday morning in Rays camp after feeling pain in his throwing arm. He was "clearly upset" as he walked off the practice field with a trainer, per Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. More should be known on Friday. The 22-year-old right-hander is considered one of the top prospects in baseball.

The only thing that sucks worse than pitchers are young pitchers. When they aren't hurt they are just in between injuries.

Brent Honeywell has been diagnosed with a torn right ulnar collateral ligament and it's been recommended he undergo Tommy John surgery.

The initial diagnosis for Honeywell was a strained right forearm, but as doctors looked at him further the bad news was discovered. It's obviously a huge bummer, as Honeywell is one of the best pitching prospects in the game and had been slated to play a big role with the Rays this season. As it is, he now will obviously miss the entire 2018 season and will probably get a late start to 2019, as well.

Brutal. First he gets screwed over for a couple of years with a lack of promotions due to management of service time and then when they are "finally" ready to call him up he's on the shelf for 18-months. This will cost him a TON of $$ as it just pushes his clock back that much farther.

Further support for 3 classifications of pitchers: (a) those that are injured, (b) those that are hurt but playing thru it and (c) those that will be hurt soon....

            "a couple of years?"

He should have been up late last lear but there was maturity issues with him and the club decided to teach him a lesson from what I was told from a team source

Fair enough Jason - definitely defer to you on TB. Point more so was he's essentially 23 now (March 31st birthday) and he at least felt he was ready LY which is what I believe led to the perceived "maturity issues" as team didn't agree. Now we'll be 25 at his debut and not a FA until 30s....

And now DeLeon down to TJ as well. Tampa seems snake bit at the moment.
