Tony Barnette is the play here, even if Bush is back. Banister has said very specifically that he prefers vets in the closer role.
I dont see how it cant be Jeffress...he fits the mold of what the vast majority of managers want (ie prior experience).

Possibly not considered dependable enough for that role due to the substance abuse issues? He was a mess last year.

Jeremy Jeffress did not make an appearance in the Rangers 9-0 win over the Indians on Thursday, but he had a long night nonetheless. Early Friday morning, Dallas police stopped the right-handed reliever in Uptown after he made a lane change without signaling in the 2500 block of Maple Avenue...

So that just makes him an asshole who can throw real hard...sounds like a closer (Aroldis anyone?) to me.

If he had Aroldis's talent I don't think this discussion would be needed

Frankly, he's been okay in TX but nothing special. If he was truly dominating he'd already be the closer.

I'll take "Dominant relievers who strike out 10K/9, for $500, Alex"

****Hint... "Who is Jeremy Jeffress" is not a valid answer for this category.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to read Bainnister's mind re: who he wants in the 9th ... I just wanted to point that Bush may not be out for that long.
                From Grant later this morning:

"Seems plausible Matt Bush ends up on 10 day DL. Likely not option to pitch before Sunday; if on DL, would have to be there until Thursday"

                  Now wait a minute.

Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Jeremy Jeffress has juvenile epilepsy and used marijuana, he says, to try to treat his symptoms. It almost cost him his career as a pitcher.

                  • Osuna is back (and blew the save but won the game)
                    but
is it worth it to cut Grilli and pick up Dyson for eventual saves and grasping at straws

I'm cutting Grilli in my 18 team mixer...as long as Osuna is healthy, they won't mess with him, especially with the season already circling the drain for Toronto.

Dyson has as good a chance as anyone in Texas, Barnett appears to be the media favorite, but the fact that the Rangers didn't put Bush on the DL says a lot to me.

Damn, there's a few names I haven't heard in awhile! Joe Borowski is the best baseball player to come out of Bayonne, NJ!
