  • Woman sues Yankees over logo

New York (CNN) -- One of the most well-known sports franchises in the world is facing a lawsuit over its famous logo.

A Yonkers, New York, woman is suing the New York Yankees for trademark infringement, claiming her uncle created the Yankees top hat logo but never got paid for his work.

In a complaint filed in Manhattan Federal Court, Tanit Buday claims her uncle Kenneth Timur was a graphic designer commissioned in 1936 to create a logo for the Yankees.

And who wrote the old WPIX Yankee theme music? I can't see that logo without thinking of that music.

The Yankees' theme/fight song was from the 60's. Had lyrics and everything, "Here come the YAN-KEES!" I have a long time buddy, Dutch guy, kinda famous illustrator in Holland, when on a visit, explained to me that "Yankee" is a Dutch loan word which translated into "young boy". Yan for young, kee for boy. No clue if he was just BS'ing, but man, god damn Dutch have to take credit for everything!

("The New Amsterdam Young Boys". Doesn't have quite the same ring.)
