  • NL Only Live Auction Sacramento, Ca Needs Two

We're a week away from our auction and two owners just dropped! Need two for a live auction in Sacramento on Saturday, March 17th at 10am. Just $40 to join. Great league, great rules, constitution below. Contact the commish at [email protected] if you're interested.

    Race For Third Place Constitution:

    Article 1. Object
To assemble a lineup of 23 National League baseball players whose cumulative statistics during the regular season, compiled and measured by the methods described in these rules.

    Article 2. Scoring
5x5 format, including the following Hitting and Pitching categories:

    1. Hitting
    a) AVG (Batting Average)
    b) HR (Homeruns)
    c) Net SB (Net Stolen Bases)
    d) R (Runs)
    e) RBI (Runs Batted In)

    2. Pitching
    a) K (Strikeout-To-Walk Ratio)
    b) W (Wins)
    c) Net SV (Net Saves)
    d) WHIP (Walks plus Hits per Inning Pitched)
    e) ERA (Earned Run Average)

    Article 3. Roster
A team's active roster consists of the following 14 hitters and 9 pitchers:

    2 C
    1 1B
    1 2B
    1 3B
    1 SS
    5 OF
    1 MI (2B or SS)
    1 CI (1B or 3B)
    1 Utility (any non-pitcher)
    9 Pitcheres

A everyday player is eligibility for a position if he played at that position last season for at least 20 games, or at least one game this season.
A team’s roster must be legal before the games start on a given day for that team to accumulate points for that day.
Players who are traded to the AL are no longer eligible to accumulate points for their Race for Third Place fantasy team. This includes members of the Houston Astros entering the 2013 season, who are not eligible to be kept for 2013.

    Article 4 Auction Draft Day
Each team must acquire 23 players at a total cost not to exceed $260. A team need not spend the maximum.

The team bidding first opens with a minimum salary bid of $1 for any eligible player, and the bidding proceeds around the room at minimum increments of $1 until only one bidder is left.

That team acquires the player for that amount and announces the roster position the player will fill. Players can be moved in terms of their position during the auction, if eligible to fill another position.

    Article 5 Position Eligibility
A player may be assigned to any position at which he appeared in 20 or more games in the preceding season or at least 1 game in the current season.

If a player did not appear in 20 games at a single position, he may be drafted only at the position designated by CBSSports.com’s fantasy page.
Article 6. The IP Requirement: A team must pitch a total of 900 innings to receive points in ERA and Ratio. A team that does not pitch 900 innings maintains its place in ERA and Ratio ranking, but receives zero points in both of these categories. (Thus, a team that finished third in ERA but did not have 900 IP would receive no points in that category. The fourth place team in ERA would still receive 7 points.)

The AB Requirement: A team must have 4250 at bats in the season. A team that does not have 4250 at bats maintains its place in the batting average ranking but receives zero points in that category

    >Pitchers’ offensive stats are not counted.
    >In cases of ties in an individual category, the tied teams are assigned points by totaling points for the ranking
issue and dividing the total by the number of teams tied.
    >In cases of ties in total points, final places in the standing are determined by comparing placement of teams
in individual categories. Respective performances are calculated and a point given to each team for bettering
the other. Should one team total more points than the other, that team is declared the winner.
    >Should the point total still be equal, the tie is broken by adding each team’s total at bat’s at season’s end,
plus triple the number of its innings pitched. The team that scores a higher total by this measure wins the pennant.

    Article 7. Trades
From the completion of the auction draft until August 16 teams are free to make trades of any kind without limit, except as stipulated below, so long as the active rosters of both teams involved in a trade reflect the required position distribution upon completion of the transaction.

All trades involving cash, “players to be named later”, FAAB, or “future considerations” are prohibited.

    Article 8. The Reserve List
A team may replace any player on its 23-man roster who is:
    >placed on the disabled list
    >released
    >traded to teams that are not covered in our league or
    >send down to the minors by his major league team

To replace such a player, a Rotisserie League team must first release him outright or place him on its reserve list.

A team reserves a player by notifying the League Secretary via a post on the league message board. The reserved player is removed before the start of the next days games. There is no limit to the number of players a team may have on its reserve list. Reserving a player protects a team’s rights to the player. When a player on a reserve list returns to active major league duty, he must be reinstated to the active 23-man roster of his Rotisserie League team 7 days after his activation or be waived. Failure to notify the League Secretary shall be considered a waiver of the player on the reserve list.

A player may not be reinstated until he has been activated by his major league team. When a player is reinstated to the active 23-man Rotisserie League roster from a team’s reserve list, the player originally called up to replace him must be waived, unless
    1) the replacement player or the original player can be shifted to another natural opening on the roster
    for which he qualifies.

    2) the players involved are pitchers, than the replacement pitcher can replace any pitcher on the Active roster and the pitcher that is being replaced is waived.

This constitution was adopted from the original model described in Rotisserie League Baseball and from the Official Constitution of the Leagues of Alternative Baseball Reality (LABR). Race For Second Place honors LABR as the first official league of experts.

Article 9. September drop rule: Players who are injured, and have not played in 7 days but have not been put on the DL., an owner can release the player, and sign a free agent .

    Article 10. Keepers
Any player purchased at auction who is kept on a roster the entire year may be kept at $5 plus the previous year’s asking price.
A player purchased via FAAB may be kept the next year for either $10 or their FAAB salary, whichever is greater.

    Article 11. FAAB
Each team is given $100 in Free Agent Acquisition Budget for the entire year. FAAB bidding on free agents will occur daily. The minimum FAAB bid is $1, and the highest bid on a player gets the player. If two players tie in FAAB bidding, the tiebreaker will be determined via CBSSports.com
If a player from an active roster is dropped, the amount of their salary will be deducted from the owner’s FAAB budget. A player on the reserve roster may be dropped at any time at no penalty via notification to the League Secretary via a post on the league message board.

    Article 12. Money
The cost of the league will be $40.

    Article 13. Auction Date
The auction for 2012 will be at March 17, 2012 at 10am.

The auction will be at a book store on Sac state campus that the commish Nick has secured. I'm coming up from the Bay Area for it. This is a brand new league and sounds like it will be a good one. We would love to have you.

I think the notice is too short for me this year but maybe down the line.

Somebody should jump on this! I was in an AL-only league with some of these guys for a couple years and it is a good group. Baby duties are keeping me away this year but I hope to re-up in the future.

            Cheers,
            Martin
