Um...are there contexts where appearing in blackface in the distant past might be forgiveable? Maybe. Like if you and a black friend each "portrayed" each other's race as part of a presentation to send up racism and stereotypes. Or your parents put you in blackface at age 9 when you said you wanted to be Michael Jordan for Halloween and you realize now how frickin' creepy that is. But the Northam photo is clearly unforgiveable.

Sure, but I suspect that’s not why the NYDN chose to write that article. I would guess it have more to do with the total meltdown of the Executive Branch in Virginia and the very real possibility a Republican could become Governor.

In Florida last year, it came out that one year when they were young, one white elected official and his best friend - who is black - decided to dress as each other for Halloween.
the black friend gave interviews where he said basically, 'nothing to see here, move it along' - and his pal got re-elected.

the Klan hood in that photo puts it over the top for me re Northam. and how the hell did that photo make it into the yearbook anyway? it was the mid-1980s, not the mid-1930s.

I think that meme is way overblown. If Biden were really a creep with respect to little girls, he sure as heck wouldn't nuzzle their hair on camera with their parents present. It's one of those things where his opponents are making something creepy that's really just harmless, non-sexual affection and warmth toward children.
