Nothing that draws a fan in in the hopes that they'll see a future star, mediocrity or less at just about every position...and hope in the minors is far away. The only thing that can possibly save them is if Sano and Buxton finally live up to their hype, and I've given up any hope that'll happen.

I look at what the Rays have done and I admire the hell out of it...what a future they have.
Their player development and trading acumen is horrific.

They just simply cannot develop pitchers. They develop one above average starter about once a decade. They seem to be much better developing hitters, but since they typically cannot afford to keep these players once they get to free agency, they deal them off, but since their returns are usually lackluster, they lose all momentum.

And the cycle just keeps continuing.

It's amazing that the Yankees can "rebuild" and land gems like Gleyber Torres and Aaron Hicks in deals, and find players like Miguel Andujar, Luis Severino, Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez in the draft or amateur free agency. Teams like the Twins should learn from the Yanks and see how they do it. Maybe they're not dedicating enough resources to certain markets or player development areas?

That sounds like the Pirates too.

One of the problems is that the Twins simply didn't have the talent to deal like the Yankees did. Chapman for Torres was a gift for NY, especially since they may have had a nod and wink agreement for Chapman to return. The Twins best chip was Dozier, who they should have traded in the off-season, but they screwed that up too. And then he compounded it by having a shitty season...now claiming that his knee hurts. Yeah, whatever. Somehow he passed the Dodgers physical with that damaged knee...

Falvey and Lavine have shown to be over their heads at this point, both in player development and in acquisitions. Now, maybe the low minors may eventually start to pay off, but right now it sucks at the upper levels. Hell, they're trying to market Willians Astudillo, a chubby catcher who happens do be hitting above .300 in a little over 50 AB's. They may not even have him on the 40 man roster next season...it's just disheartening. Rosario is regressing, Kepler as well, Sano may never be anything close to even Joey Gallo. And Buxton is being screwed by the club, but I understand their position...Ugh.

Little starting pitching, less relief pitching, and a bad manager on top of it all.

        • But you do have "El Tortuga"

Good article on him here: https://www.si.com/mlb/2018/09/18/wi...innesota-twins

                just sayin'
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

                  • Rocco Baldelli named new Twins manager.

BTW, once DeMarlo Hale and De Jon Watson decide they're no longer interested in interviewing, who are MLB clubs going to use as the token minority candidates?

That was some cut on his foot.

                            • Garver injured on a play at the plate with Ohtani. Initial diagnosis is a high ankle sprain. But video shows his knee getting twisted. A trip to the IL appears likely. Stay tuned.
