True, but RB is a position now where you don't need to throw $4 million dollars at it. You can wait and sign a leftover and get the same production. Waste of money for a team up against the cap limit and with MUCH bigger needs.
Yep, it's a complete misread of the market. See also: Gerhart's contract with the Jaguars.

Considering his only baseball post in the past year was bringing up a 3 year old thread to taunt Hornsby and he's never contributed a dime to our hatpass, perhaps?
You know that dude the Raiders signed for 798 gazillion dollars? The dude that was the reason, supposedly, that they let Veldeheer walk for less money? The dude who's injured constantly?
Yeah, that dude, Roger Safford, who signed for 5 years and $42.5 million, failed his physical and the deal with the Raiders is voided. Reggie McKenzie is the Ned Colletti of the NFL. Totally out of his depth.
Word is Mark Davis (the nepotistic owner, not the one shot wonder closer) nixed the deal.

How so? The Rams don't seem to mind the shoulder issue and all words indicate that Safford will be fine for Training Camp?
After former Broncos quarterback Brian Griese sprained his ankle and said he was tripped on the stairs of his home by his golden retriever, Bella: “The dog stood up on his hind legs and gave him a push? You might want to get rid of that dog, or put him in the circus, one of the two.”

Now they're saying it was Raiders owner Mark Davis who nixed the deal. Which may be even worse news for Raiders fans.

I would expect Sproles to be used almost exclusively in the passing game, and on returns. McCoy is still the workhorse and the staff likes Chris Polk. Expect Bryce Brown to be traded or maybe even cut.

they might even be worse than last year, something I would have thought impossible.
They actually did better than I thought they would last year. They won, what, 4 games? And I thought they had 1-15 or 2-14 talent. Maybe this is the year. They could easily be 1-15, with the win coming over the Chargers, who always find ways to lose games that they shouldn't.

It's just embarrassing all around. The deal was a crappy one to begin with --- massive money for a guy who's injury-prone and slightly above average. They could have just kept Veldeheer (if they weren't totally incompetent). They went all-in on this injury-prone guy who, shocker, was injured and requires immediate surgery. So owner steps in over moron GM's head and nixes the deal.
So now they have no adequate replacement for Veldeheer. They also have a brand new reputation like the Orioles, where they'll nix bazillion dollar deals based on injuries that should have been known in advance.
I'm glad the deal fell through, in a vacuum. That kid is not worth that kind of money, particularly since he's still injured (when is he not?). But this has to reflect really poorly on the organization in the eyes of every other free agent. There's just nothing good happening. The GM is absolutely clueless, both in free agency and in the draft (can't wait to see what jackdick he picks with pick #5). The owner is meddling in a manner reminiscent of his father. No one wants to play for the organization, they let their two best players go without a fight and they might even be worse than last year, something I would have thought impossible. They're fucked in every way. They have the most money ever available in the history of the NFL and they will face the daunting task of even convincing elite talent to go there at all.
All that is overrated in the NFL. Careers are short, money talks. Minnesota, Miami, Cleveland and Jacksonville are not exactly model franchises for varying reasons yet they're not having much trouble attracting free agents. I'd be annoyed if I were a Raider fan, but not too concerned with these shenanigans.
