    • From RW today:

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred told reporters at the 2021 All-Star Game on Tuesday that the Athletics stadium process is "at the end."
Manfred noted that an upcoming July 20 Oakland city council vote on a proposal to build a new stadium at the Howard Terminal site will ultimately determine the fate of the Athletics in the Bay Area. He also added that Las Vegas is a "viable alternative" for a major-league club, seemingly encouraging the city of Oakland not to view it as a bluff. Simply put, the Athletics long-term stadium question will be resolved next week.

I havent been following this situation. What are the chances that they'll approve a new stadium in Oakland? And how viable really is Manfred's Las Vegas "threat"? Is there a new stadium deal already in place in Vegas? If so, is it publicly or privately funded? And how many major sports franchises can a small city like Vegas really support? Just about 5 years ago, they didnt have any.

Vegas can afford and fund as many pro sports teams as it can get. It's not about the locals, it's about the tourists and every casino will buy all the tickets they can get to gift to their guests. So yeah, the threat is real--I'd say.

Do you know the status of a new stadium deal and will it be privately funded?

I don't live there anymore, but my kids and several friends do-so I'm not as informed as I used to be about Vegas-But-I know there is talk going on right now about baseball being brought to Vegas, the proposed stadium would be less than the Raiders deal of which about 800 million was publicly funded. With Vegas still reeling from Covid income deficit they aren't as gung ho as they were a while ago. There are several sites they can use on and off strip, several potential investors, BUT they are most likely going to wait until they see some recovery in the Tourist industry. They have some time because I believe the Oakland vote on the stadium there is in sept. There would absolutely have to be some private money in order to get a ballpark built, but if Vegas feels that they're back all the way--it should be pretty easy to do and yes, those resort fees everyone pays would go up to fund the public contribution to the deal.

Baseball isn't Football, but no one thought Hockey would sell in the desert either. If Oakland doesn't build the A's a new stadium, I trust Vegas to find a way to do it.

            • So both Max Muncy's were drafted and originally signed by the A's and both have the same birthday. That's eerie.
I'm just here for the baseball.

Appears to be RHP Daniel Palencia and OF Greg Deichmann. Don't know anything about Deichmann, but Palencia has huge velocity but control issues.

                                From RotoGraphs:

The Cubs traded Andrew Chafin to the Athletics for Greg Deichmann and RHP Daniel Palencia. Chafin adds to the A’s bullpen and could be in line for holds. Deichmann is an interesting prospect with power and speed, but has struggled with contact prior to 2021. He has improved that a bit this season, however. Palencia is a 21-year-old prospect that has struggled in A-Ball this season, but reportedly has a good fastball and curve with questionable command. He was signed in February of 2020 out of Venezuela, so there may be a slower development track for him and there hasn’t been a ton of scouting work yet done on him, according to Eric Logenhagen.
