          • BOTH Mets owners misspelled their GM's first name in separate statements

              • I dont follow the Mets and I wasnt watching the game, but pls explain to me why the Mets brought in a 1Bman to pitch in a 1-1 game in extra innings (and promptly gave up a GS to lose the game) when the NL playoff race is wide open and they could easily be in playoff position if they just win a few more games?

                • they did not

Drew Smith is not Dom Smith.

they're not even the same "flavor."

but if you seek OTHER examples of Mets ineptitude today:

Mets led 7-2 in Game with 1 with one out to go, and a mere runner on first (and even he had reached on an error).

then the Mets walk career .192 hitter Tyler Wade because - well, it felt kind of Mets-y.

Estrada hit by a pitch to load 'em up. yawn.

check-swing single by Voit plates two.

Estrada coasts from first to third because - I don't know why.

the throw to third is there in time as Estrada - not even sliding or even paying much attention - is tagged for the final out. for a millisecond. then the ball comes loose from Gimenez after contact with the dozing Estrada.

(Mets announcers Yankees third base coach Phil Nevin, who presumably had a hot meal waiting in the clubhouse because he didn't give Estrada any instructions such as "WAKE THE #### UP, YOU IDIOT!")

this is the cue for the Mets to bring in a somnambulant Edwin Diaz, for the same reason that teenagers in horror movies go into dark houses even knowing a killer is lurking.

he quickly tosses a wild pitch to make it 7-5.

Hicks, down to his last strike, rips a majestic shot to RF that some enthusiasts insist traveled more than 300 feet in the air to tie the game.

they played out the 8th and the Yankees won.

and in the nightcap, it's 1-1 in the 8th - again - when Gary Sanchez hits a grand slam for what was his 4th hit or so of the season.

then the Mets make it 5-2 and load the bases in the bottom of the 8th, and Wilson Ramos has a 3-2 pitch and the runners are going....

and The Mighty Ramos Has Struck Out on what might have been Ball Four.

                  The End.

                    • According to Charles Gasparino of FOX Business Network, the Mets and Steve Cohen are "finalizing paperwork" on his purchase of the team.

Gasparino tweets that the deal "will be voted on at a special owners meeting in November," and Major League Baseball executives say "every indication is that Cohen gets approved." Cohen's latest bid is reportedly $250 million less than what he agreed to pay back in December, but the financial landscape has changed amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and it's apparently still rich enough to beat out groups led by A-Rod/J-Lo and 76ers/Devils owner Josh Harris. Cohen's purchase of the Mets could be finalized before the Winter Meetings.

                      • Well, the Mets are consistent. deGrom has a 2.14 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, almost a 6:1 K:BB ratio, 94 K's in 63 IP...and four wins in 11 starts. Given deGrom's typical 32-33 starts/full season, that prorates out to...12 wins. Which is exactly his average from 2017-2019.
