I've not heard a figure that high, the most common figure that I've heard is somewhere around 5 million, but I suppose that it's possible. But even so, that would be spread over 2-3 years or so most likely, not something that would break a MLB club. And how much revenue do they lose by NOT making the playoffs this season, if it comes to that? Or just in lost revenue from fans who aren't coming to the park in a mini protest? Who's to say what would have happened if Pittsburgh had actually tried to field their most competitive team, rather than trying to save money 4 years down the road. I find WAR to be a troubling statistic, because you can't actually figure in all the things that a player may do to factor into a win for his team. And yes, spending for better pitching would have been a great move as well...they shouldn't have cheaped out on AJ Burnett.
