But from my experience, interacting with such girls reveals they are not mature adult women, even if they may be able to pass physically for 18. But you interact a lot more with that age group than I do, so I defer to your take. I interact with 18-22 year olds and most of them seem so young to me.
Yes, that makes sense. He _should_ have been able to determine that she wasn't 18. But for reasons unknown at this time, he did not, or ignored that knowledge.

Ditto here, not flaming you V, but I gotta completely disagree with the idea that a child lying about their age takes away the culpability of the adult. It never does. Never. I've heard that excuse before in these type situations. It's never acceptable. He's a 28 year old man. He knew what he was doing. I have zero tolerance for child abuse and there are no valid excuses. I'm definitely flaming the "idea" that the kid lying makes it okay, but not directing the anger at you V.

I think if we're honest we all know that he knew what he was doing - the reality is that he just thought he could get away with it. He's a professional athlete, I'm sure he's been pampered and put on a pedestal his whole life. Thank goodness her parents stepped in. That's what I take away from that note.

Any ambiguity on this has been removed by the latest report on this. Vazquez fully admits to sexual relations with the girl even though he also fully admits he knew she was underage. He says he rebuked initial contact, because of her young age, before deciding to go ahead with the relationship. So, yeah, eyes wide open on this. He even says she looked under 16, the age of consent in Pennsylvania. I'm glad he is being forthcoming on all of this, as it makes the process easier and cheaper for tax payers, but I'm surprised he so freely admits to everything, including knowing the girl's age and that she was under the legal age of consent. His professional life and his freedom for a good long while are now gone, all because while I'm sure he could have hooked up with any number of adults, he decided hooking up with a 13 year old was a good idea.

This story is very sad and gross, and, as stated above, very predictable.

Thanks to all for clarifying your stance. The above link blows away the idea that he was lied to or duped. Fair point that he shouldn't have proceeded regardless. He's going away for a long time.

              • Felipe Vazquez faces possible deportation if convicted of the sex crime charges brought forth against him.
Vazquez is charged with computer pornography, solicitation of a child, and one count of providing obscene material to minors. Louise Radnofsky and Jared Diamond report that the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement are tracking the charges. They also report that deportation could become difficult because of the unstable relationship between The United States and Venezuela; namely president Nicolas Maduro. Vazquez is currently on administrative leave while the investigation into the charges continue.

                • The Pirates have fired manager Clint Hurdle after nine seasons. I thought the Pirates liked having a "yes man" who agreed with everything that the owner and GM did.

                  • Supposedly, this photo was taken today after Hurdle was fired just before the Pirates final game. He looks very relieved lol.

                    • Regarding Vasquez and the underage girl, i'm hearing that the PA State Police are investigating other Pirate players who were photographed with the girl. So, there may be more to that story.

And supposedly, Charlie Morton was available to pitch in relief if needed.
