When I first learned of this, my first thought was "Guardians of what?". Turns out that there is a famous bridge in Cleveland near the ballpark w a bunch of statues, which are called the "guardians of traffic" (?). This nickname supposedly was the most popular of the names submitted by fans. Explanations of the new name also refer to guardians of "the Land", which I suppose means CleveLand, but I'm not really sure. Anyway, to a person like me that doesnt live there, it seems like an odd choice, but I dont think it's the worst sports franchise nickname either. At least it's plural. And at least they made the change in well under a year, which is much more than I can say for the Washington Football Team.
