It is harder to play above replacement level for any extended period after you have been murdered.

I feel like I need some stats to back up such a claim.
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

"Meche, a 32-year-old right-handed pitcher, had a contract that called for a $12 million salary in 2011. Yet he will not report to Surprise, Ariz., with the rest of the Kansas City Royals for spring training next month. He will not have surgery to repair his chronically aching right shoulder. He will not pitch in relief, where the workload is lighter.

Meche retired last week, which means he will not be paid at all."

            • Orioles lost their 14th straight game tonite. This is the 2nd 14-game losing streak this season, the first time that's been done since the 1935 Boston Braves.

                • The Rays are 13-1 against Baltimore, and their 5-game lead in the East can be directly tied to that. This graphic was from Tuesday night's game:

                            • O's end their 19-game losing streak tonite. coming from behind to win 10-6. I was at the game. Nice comeback win. Wanted to see Ohtani, who did not look particularly impressive. 5.0 IP, 4 ER, 4 H, 0 BB, 7 K, 3 HR, 84 pitches, 56 strikes. Sat at 94-95 and touched 97, which seems about avg for him. He continued his impressive streak of starts w very few walks.
