the book is frakking awesome, on par with "House of Leaves" for me in terms of neurolinguistic dread wierdness from reading it. The movie is a "World War Z" adaptation, same title, same setting, missing everything else...

    • IMO, Black Panther is very good if you can look past the glaring flaw underlying the entire story.
If DMT didn't exist we would have to invent it. There has to be a weirdest thing. Once we have the concept weird, there has to be a weirdest thing. And DMT is simply it.

Overall, the living situations for people of African descent is vastly better than it has been in the past so the primary struggle of whether to expose Wakanda to the rest of the world should have happened 200 years ago.

              Who's Wakanda?

I get the impression that Guillermo Del Toro had a bet that he couldn't win an Oscar with a B-movie involving big rubber monsters, bestiality, masturbation, torture, decapitation, murder and self mutilation

                      Ingredients:

                      - A dash of musical theatre, with regular allusions to Oscar bait musicals
                      - Classical 50's setting constantly referencing the Goldern Era of cinema
                      - Shoes ... ladies loves shoes
                      - Appeal to well worn Oscar bait topics such as homophobia and racism.

Slow cook for 2 hours, adding your big rubber monsters, bestiality, masturbation, torture, decapitation, murder and self mutilation ... slowly stirring as you add.

Would be brilliant if this cajoled its way into the best picture prize.
                      Nice

Heh. I actually like Franco's stoopid stoner comedies. Maybe now that he's being shunned by the respectable Hollywood establishment (snicker), he'll go back to slumming with Seth Rogan and Danny McBride.
"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean - neither more nor less."
"The question is," said Alice, "whether you can make words mean so many different things."
"The question is," said Humpty Dumpty, "which is to be master - that's all."

                              • Actually saw movies at a Drive-In this past weekend (they're rare in these parts). The double feature was Super Troopers 2 and The Quiet Place. ST2 was as bad as Rob Lowe's accent. Quiet Place was really good. Shades of The Village and Signs.

Also saw Crooked House which is free for Amazon Prime folks now. Glenn Close, Christina Hendricks, Gillian Anderson in an Agatha Christie book. Good stuff as well.
