  • $1/last round fliers Starting Pitchers

    Everybody knows pitching is the easiest place to unearth an out of nowhere gem. In an auction league I'm in, I plan on experimenting on a "offense only" strategy and spending $9 on 9 pitching slots.

    For this to work, I need some "sleeper" pitchers with lots of upside (HIGH ceiling even at the cost of LOW floor) to add to my list. Anybody have any they would like to share?

    The league would be 12 team, mlb universe, 23 man rosters.

    I'll get the ball rolling by sharing a couple deep sleeper SPs I really like:

    * Henderson Alvarez, TOR, SP
    * Danny Hultzen, SEA, SP

      Homer Bailey
      Tyler Skaggs
      Trevor Baurer
      After former Broncos quarterback Brian Griese sprained his ankle and said he was tripped on the stairs of his home by his golden retriever, Bella: “The dog stood up on his hind legs and gave him a push? You might want to get rid of that dog, or put him in the circus, one of the two.”

        Garrett Richards (LAA) - great stuff that hasn't translated into Ks yet. Needs a way into the rotation but the skills are worth a buck.

                      This is a nice list but I think a lot of these go for more than a buck.

                        Yeah, I can't see guys like Dempster, Billingsley and Baker going for a buck.

                          Some more (NL) potential $1 names:

                          Medlen (with health/health history of Hudson, Hanson & Jurrjens, he could start)
                          Capuano
                          Rubby De La Rosa (TJ Surgery...so only if keeper league)
                          Morton
                          Volstad
                          Pomeranz
                          Leake

                          Longshots
                          Arroyo
                          Detwiler

                          These guys will likely cost more depending on league size but still be cheap?
                          Collmenter
                          Worley
                          Zambrano
                          Cahill
                          Dickey
                          Shelby Miller

                            I actually really like AJ Burnett this year, although 12-team mixed you may not need to go that deep.
                            Do Worley or Volquez go for $1?
                            In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.

                              I got Dempster in round 22 in the KFFL BAD draft, Billingsley was plan B, and Baker didn't go long before either. In a mixed league they can be had for under $5. Maybe not quite $1 but close. Oswalt and Sale were more expensive. The rest can probably go for a buck or two, tops.
