  • RHD's Latest Top 150 Roto Prospects ("Pre-BA Top 100" Edition)

Here's the latest list (previous list from 10/11/21). 11 new names. Actually, BA just posted this year's list, but I havent looked at it yet. Something that just recently struck me is how few pitchers there are this year. Only 46 pitchers. Typically, I think there are around 60.

The usual litany: I generally follow BA's prospect eligibility requirements, which are <=130 MLB AB or <=50 MLB IP. Unlike BA tho, amateurs, unsigned draftees and foreign players are eligible. Also, while BA has a different IP limit for relievers (30 IP?), relievers are eligible as long as they dont have >50 IP. As usual, this is for roto, not 'real' baseball, so pitchers are downgraded some, catchers downgraded somewhat (unless they're elite prospects and their bat will play at any position), and actual closers are upgraded a lot, SB guys who project to get playing time get upgraded some, and guys who either currently are or project to soon be regulars can get upgraded quite a bit. Position listed is their current primary one to the best of my knowledge (correct me if I'm wrong), not the one they're likely to end up at.

RHD - Always love seeing this list! Thank you for doing it!

Couple questions - I see Baseball America is posting their top 100 today, will anyone that subscribes post it?

O'Neil Cruz moves all the way to 8, what prompted such an aggressive move? Where do the following players fit in and maybe quick thoughts? Alec Burleson St. L, Korry Howell Milw, Grant Lavigne Col, Michael Togia Col, Jake Eder Mia?

Andruw Jones son? - tell us more.

        Thanx for the response, rotogod.

I'm going to be busy until this evening so I will answer your questions and any others later. I will not post BA's list for obvious reasons. But I can tell you about specific players as long as it's not too many.

Thank you for posting this. It is one of the most helpful tools I use to get ready for our reserve drafts. It is also good for trading pre-auction.

OK, Oneil Cruz was already a solid top prospect, had a very good year and is listed as being the everyday SS in Pittsburgh for 2022. His BA report indicates both double-plus power and plus speed and his stats last year back that up. The only prospect-eligible players that figure to be MLB starters on opening day and are ranked above him are Witt and Torkelson. On BA's list released today, he was #14. I like where I have him ranked. He would be the tallest SS in MLB history at 6'7 (I've heard some say he is really 6'8) so he is intriguing for that reason alone. He presents a certain amount of risk but in roto he's a very attractive guy to buy in on.

Druw Jones is listed several places as being the #1 2022 draft prospect at this point, including BA. His BA scouting report says he has double-plus speed and that he may grow into above-average power. The fact that he is now ranked above both Elijah Green and Termarr Johnson I consider noteworthy. And he certainly has the bloodlines to be a very successful MLBer. I may have him too high here but he's a guy I want to target in my leagues that allow drafting of amateurs.

Of the other players you listed, I have Toglia the highest at #186. Eder also is high at #213 and I was surprised that he wasnt on BA's list despite his major injury. Burleson also is fairly high at #245. Howell and Lavigne are much lower. Of these, Eder is the only one that I would be particularly interested in rt now, pending how he comes back after the injury.

Yes, I rank amateurs and players in foreign leagues. Watson is #35 on the list.

Trying to pick my next minors pick and am looking for any advice from yous guys. My highest ranked options appear to be:

                      - Josh Lowe
                      - Miguel Vargas
                      - Jose Barrero
                      - Brett Baty
                      - Oswald Peraza

You guys have a top pick out of those? Seems like Lowe is generally ranked the highest but he's all over the map with rankings depending on the site. I wasn't a big fan until his 2021 season showed what he can do. Similar situation w/ Vargas who appears to be a better hitter but with less speed? Barrero had a nice minors year last year, too.

                      Thanks for the help!

All intriguing options, all close together in terms of rankings and potential. I'd rank them 1. Baty, 2. Barrero 3. Lowe 4. Peraza 5. Vargas.

If push came to shove, I might take Peraza over Lowe, because there are a couple of Yankee fans in my league, so he might have more trade value. Lowe will get ABs this year, which is attractive, of course. I could see you taking him over Barrero, but he will also get ABs this year. All three of those guys are close to me. I'm always a little worried about how Tampa will handle ABs for their young players. To me, Baty is your top choice, unless you discount him for being a Met. To me Baty and Vargas are the clear book ends, even though they are not all that far apart.

Interesting. I have this pick, then another dude picks two, then back to me. So I'll get two of these five at least. New league so no real idea whether there are Yankee fans, etc.

                            I'd go 1. Lowe 2. Baty 3. Barrero 4. Peraza 5. Vargas

Can't get much better than guys proven at AAA, so Lowe gets a big boost for me. Baty has the biggest HR ceiling. The other 3 are a clear tier drop lower for me. All have internal competition from bigger named prospects and play on tough teams to break onto. Barrero gets the edge for the 3 spot because of proximity and org, and a good ballpark.
Larry David was once being heckled, long before any success. Heckler says "I'm taking my dog over to fuck your mother, weekly." Larry responds "I hate to tell you this, but your dog isn't liking it."

Thanks, dude. I picked Baty about 30 seconds before your post. I kind of skipped around a little bit, but here are the rhd highest ranking players left:

                              Josh Lowe
                              Oswald Peraza

                              Edward Cabrera

I also have my eye on Jose Miranda and Miguel Vargas, although appears I might have been too high on both to begin with.
