    • There's two concepts - first, supporting Trump equals being/not being a Christian. Second, whether Jesus would endorse Trump. I believe GITH is in error on the former, and correct on the latter.

Please edify me on the former.

How can you be a Christian and support trump.

          umm...a couple of things.

This is what I said "Are you suggesting Jesus would endorse any candidate? If so how would we know?" The only person I see who answered my question even a little is DMT. No one answered my question as to how we would know if he (Jesus did endorse). Now this is of the assumption that the risen Christ is alive which I believe.

Secondly I do not believe that Jesus would endorse any candidate as the first part of comment infers. Of course allowing and endorsing are not the same things.

Same way I could be a Christian and support Clinton. Or Biden. Or Bush. Or LBJ. Or any other president. To say that Trump's moral failings are greater than, say, LBJ's - who approved actions that burned, maimed, and killed thousands of innocent civilians in Vietnam - are questionable at best both morally and scripturally. Who anyone votes for does not reflect their faith.

As usual Gregg, you don't answer the question--you ask one.

It's pretty simple--I don't believe any who calls themselves a Christian and actually IS one, can vote for or support Trump--Unless their view of being a Christian is one of convenience or selective morality.

Now you can always CALL yourself a Christian and vote for Trump because I know Hypocrisy exists and many make use of it.

But to be practicing Christian who strives every day to live the life Jesus asks of you, there is no way you can vote for or support a person like Trump.

                I wholly disagree.

I think several people answered your question. I am not really sure where u are going with your comment. I will ask a more direct question I guess. Do u think Donald Trump's behavior and values are consistent with the teachings of Jesus ?

I think everyone understands that the point GITH is making is that Trump is pretty much an example the exact opposite of The teachings of Jesus. Do you disagree with that ?

So back to the post that started this discussion....you must agree that congressman Kinziger's family is completely full of shite. I think it is obvious, but what are your thoughts ?

EDIT: GITH's whole point was the family that sent the letter to the congressman was out of touch with reality, and your words seem to support this...yet it feels like you want to call out LBJ and Clinton and not the people who wrote the ridiculous letter. Maybe I just misinterpreted what you guys think, I dunno

It's pretty telling that people want to argue with GITH on some theoretical question instead of a adressing the letter that his post was responding to

Ah, I missed the Kinziger part, and will admit I've read little of the details on that other than hearing his family is shunning him. The LBj/Bush/Clinton/any president discussion is more on the lines of "you can't be X and vote Y".

I think there is a difference between holding your nose, saying "this guy has huge flaws and I recognize their seriousness but I weigh these other things, too, and ultimately after wrestling with it sided on voting for Trump" versus equating support of Trump with being part of God's army. I can disagree with the former but still maintain some measure of respect for the person holding that view, even if I think it's misguided and ultimately harms the country, too. The latter view is extremely dangerous, and it's hard to even reason with that person.

                              • And I think way too many "Christians" in America actually worship the American empire rather than worshipping Jesus. Those are not even close to the same thing.
