  • Hitherto?

Have you ever used or heard anyone use the word hitherto in everyday speaking.

I have heard it read, I have read it. I have never used or heard anyone use it hitherto. I suspect that might change today.

No, but I can't wait for Seitzer to weigh in.
I'm just here for the baseball.

I used henceforth just 2 days ago, but I don't think I've ever used hitherto.

It's very legal sounding, but my boss hates hereto, hitherto, henceforth, herewith, all of those. Since I've been working with him for 16 years, I will sometimes fold them into a report or something that he has to review just to irritate him. But, outside of that, no I generally have not used them.

TV announcers got by for decades with "he fumbled."

You can fumble without the ball hitting the ground.

logic is not the key for them - adding 6 words is. maybe they get paid by the word?
