  • Our League's alternative to our March 27 auction

Owners are bored, so we're going to do a sloooooow online serpentine draft starting at our previously scheduled auction time tomorrow.

goal is about one round a day. maybe a little more. We got 11 'yeses' out of 12.

no roster changes all season, so an owner can wake up after the season (if there is one) and find out how he did.

my gimmick, I have decided, is to try to pick only players I have previously owned (active roster or farm system).

    I picked 6th, so I couldn't start with Acuna.

seeing that my pitching in this chosen straightjacket looks suspect for the first 10 rounds, I'll reach tomorrow with Scherzer (in a shorter season, that could especially work).

at 18th, I guess Harper and Buehler may both be off the board - which would leave me with Albies, Rizzo, KMarte, or Kershaw as most-likely targets from my 'former property' list.

at 31st, assuming the above names are all gone, then Pham, Realmuto, and ESuarez are top targets (based on a FanTrax ML draft ranking from March 4).

I have only done one 'draft' in my life, a non-keeper like this about 10 years ago. I probably need to make sure to focus on the one-year angle - in a keeper league, a fossil like Scherzer might have a little less appeal while a developing player like Robles (whom I can't pick) might get bumped higher.

advice will be welcomed as always - and in this rendition, I'll have plenty of time to absorb it!

Be careful with rankings as many may not consider the effects of a late start to the season (Suarez)

yes, harmon - plus my list is 3 weeks old.

that's why I'll be 'working the room' here before each pick with several names on my self-limited board.

no doubt an ADP list is better. but this one was easy to print out for crossing out names, checking others, etc.

nothing like being in a league with old owners in a highly-impacted state/region to raise the anxiety meter.
EDIT: now just ONE owner hasn't been heard from in over a week. he is only 57 but has major health issues.

          1.1 Betts
          1.2 Yelich
          1.3 Acuna
          1.4 Arenado
          1.5 Scherzer (ME, see above)
          1.6 Bellinger
          1.7 Harper
          1.8 Tatis Jr.
          1.9 TTurner
          1.10 deGrom
          1.11 Story

I should be picking 7th, but wound up 5th to account for two of the missing owners.

a reach, but not necessarily dooming me

first round likely done; we're just giving the straggler another 2 hours to jump in, then we move on.

without him, I'd pick 8th in the second round. Story, Soto, Freeman, Alonso (Mets league), Baez, and maybe Buehler likely go off the board.
my best 'eligibles' as former property would be from a group of Albies, KMarte, Rizzo, and Kershaw. probably leaning one of the first two.

If you'd had Bellinger previously, would you have taken him over Scherzer?

I think I would have taken Marte but i can't fault you for the Albies pick.

HQ LOVES Albies this year (if there is a this year)
probably would have taken Bellinger in Round 1 if I owned him before, then pivoted to Buehler in Round 2

                      Yeah, Bellinger/Buehler would have been a pretty incredible 1-2 in a 12-team NL-Only league.

we only got 2 picks into Round 3 after doing Round 2 today - but as I said, we all have nothing but time so that's fine.

4 more players before my Round 3 pick. my best options are probably KMarte, Rizzo, Pham, and ESuarez.
somebody will be available to me from that group - because Bryant, JBaez, Machado, and Goldschmidt are available to others.

is 3B more shallow than 1B in NL this year? if so, then Suarez is appealing. this is 11-team, fwiw.

"only" 8 picks before I go in Round 4. would love any of my foursome above to slip thru the cracks to me. if not, Realmuto and JBell are my only other '20 dollar' players on my limited board.

Curious why are you doing the gimmick? Wouldn't it be more fun to just do a normal draft rather than limiting yourself? Are others doing gimmicks?

I count 7 1Bs and 9 3Bs that seem reliable. 1B has some high risk plays that can be made later in the draft - Votto, CWalker, Aguilar, DMurphy.

The 1Bs - Bellinger, Freeman, Rizzo, Goldschmidt, Alonso, JBell, RHoskins
The 3Bs - KBryant, Arenado, ESuarez, EEscobar, JTurner, Machado, Moose, JMcNeil, BAnderson

                              interesting.

of that group, remaining 1Bs are RIZZO, Goldschmidt, JBELL, and Hoskins.
remaining 3Bs are Bryant, SUAREZ, Escobar, JTurner, Machado, Moose, BAnderson.

I can only take Rizzo, JBell, or Suarez, of course.
