I'd be thinking Eaton and then Dyson if he makes it back to you. If Eaton gets picked ahead of you, I'd go with Dyson. He's the only quality source of wheels I see on your list.

yeah, that makes sense.

HQ gives me per-162 games so far with 5 hitters of .271 (excellent), 128 HR, 400 RBI, 405 R, 42 SB (light even in this era).

you guys steered me right in picking DeJong - both Polanco and Eaton are still available to me in Round 8 (well, there is one more pick ahead of me).

so my hunch on not taking Eaton in Round 7 worked out nicely

As I have noted, probably half the lead thinks very little of Eaton. on FanTrax, there are 12 players on the overall board rated ahead of Eaton in this format.
if I am correct that Eaton is seen as no more than a $14 player by my rivals, well, there are 21 players on the overall board whose HQ value for this format is 14 or higher (and 7 more rated at $13). there will be 10 selections before I go in Round 9. four of those teams already have 3 of their 5 OF.
also, HQ rates Braun at 20 - so if Eaton goes, it's likely a similarly boring player remains an option in Round 9.
Eaton has little to no breakout chance, and owners like to dream - especially these days. my owners already have taken fliers on the likes of Lamet and Dubon, seeking a black swan.

the pick just made was: "Trent Grisham, OF, prepared for a breakout year."

I'm high on Lamet for this season, so I can see why they'd gamble on him. I can't understand the gamble on Dubon, this early...and Grisham feels like a similar reach.

As for your roster, Eaton is the obvious next pick. I love how your plan is working out!

since Mikolas is supposed to be healthy and the next-best SP is rated at 9, I'd be tempted to take him as my 3rd SP.
but I'm also interested in a 3rd OF or a CI, and with only 3 more picks ahead of me before I go in Round 10, clearly I can get one - or take Dyson (rated at 8 but valuable to me).

As a Brewer homer, I think they have Braun overpriced. He definitely still has gas in the tank, but his ABs will be more limited, IMO. Basically, the Brewers have three players for two positions (LF and 1B), and they didn't drop coin on Avi Garcia and Smoak to sit them a lot.

yeah, I don't see Braun at that number, either. I like CDickerson better.

was surprised to see CDickerson go off the board, so I went with Dyson to make me competitive in SB.

he's a tricky player to value. useless to a team that is great or terrible in steals. he hit the exact sweet spot for my roster, and I hope that one of the boring old-timers like Braun, Votto, Murphy fall to me next round.

with the last pick, I am now as balanced as a team can be in terms of positions and stats. C and a 3rd SP are needs, and Molina and CSmith would be my favorites. several CI options out there such as Votto, Murphy, Castro (also a MI) - and I doubt that any will still be there for me in the middle of Round 12.

are those bats just too good to pass up? recall that this is a 23-man "draft and hold" league - no transactions all season, and no bench. you dance with the gals who ya brung. Smith seems "early" here, but I like him more than, say, JGray, AWood, Cueto, or Jeff S who also are on my personal board (I am only drafting players I have owned already, yet so far I haven't felt hamstrung by that). I like Marquez, but I think he slips another round or two easy.

only the second draft of my life (other one was 10 years ago or so), so don't assume I know what the hell I'm doing! even basic tips are welcomed.
