Last auction for me until baseball gets scheduled, so with nothing else to do here is how this one went. I'll focus on my team and I will give my software list of keepers and who was bought but the end game in this one is a mess. I just couldn't keep up and am not motivated to double check. You'll notice some obvious farm type guys aren't taken like Roberts, they are owned in someones farm but didn't count as a keeper.
League details - 5x5 with saves + holds instead of saves. 1 C and 2 UT. We have weekly faab, but daily lineup. moves that let you move pitchers or hitters in that you own on your reserve. So MR pitchers have value and you can really play matchups with SP's. Everything else is pretty standard.
Anyway, let's start with who I kept and the vague plan.
KEEPERS
C Gary Sanchez $10
2B Shed Long $5
3B Y Moncada $15
CI Devers $15
MI LeMahieu $13
P Glasnow $14
P M Boyd $14
P L Hendriks $1
P Bummer $1
P K Gibson $3
Had to eat $6 penalty on a $12 Aaron Hicks contract.
So I had pretty decent value coming in but lost a $20 Mookie Betts in the offseason that would have made this list much nicer. Not the best keeper list in the league, but it is one that can play if I get the auction right.
Ok so the plan is not to worry about buying an ace, they will go for more than I can afford. I'll try to spend $25 to get 2 SP's I don't hate. Buy at least one MR guy I really like for holds for another 5-8. Grab SP's for cheap and anyone who I like for holds for cheap.

So with pitching going on the cheap I wanted to put money into hitting. Plenty of teams had way more money than me and I knew players would go for more than I could afford. My goal was to get 3 guys I liked for $80 and position didn't matter too much. I was flexible enough to take on CI/MI or OF. Obviously with no OF'ers going in I needed to allocate more there to secondary types. So for the ballpark it was something like this...

So those are my big buys for a total of 145. Still have 23 to spend on the fill in spots. 5 of those will be reserve so call them $1 players in the plan probably pitchers. So that means 18 for 4 so about $4-$5 a player which will move up and down as some will be $6 and some will be $2 and so on.
The list below will help but I'll give some context to how this went from my point of view. Verlander was out first and the bidding slowed down in the low 30's. I thought long and hard about jumping in, but the questions and my teams construct made me decide to sit it out. Verlander went for $36. Trout was next, I had owned him for like 5 or 6 years so this is the first time he was on the open market. He went for $66 and I was never involved. The third player out really set the tone of we are all going to pay up because there is too much money here. Ryu went for $29, and again I was not in at all.
I mostly sat tight for quite a while, I was like Mike McD in rounders. I put some money in and pushed people up but I wasn't ready to go over my limit on people or blow my budget. Closest I got in the first few rounds was Elvis Andrus I bid up to $29 but let it slide at $30.
Before we get to my first buy here are some prices...

Ok so I pushed in on two guys and wound up with one. Nelson Cruz was out first and with 2 UT spots that did not scare me off. I bid all the way up to 38, but got outbid at 39. The next guy I was in on was Jose Abreu. Technically DJ started the draft at 1B, but he could slide to MI if I bought a 1B. So I had Abreu at 36 with inflation but players worth a big investment were slipping and going over budget didn't scare me. Abreu has had over 550 PA each year and that health is important. I pushed to $39 and won him as my first buy. Abreu vs Cruz will be interesting to follow if one outperforms the other by a lot.
Jorge Polanco was out next and I pushed to 30 but he went to $34. Yuri Gurriel went for $31 after that and CJ Cron for $26. Edwin Encarnacion was the next throw and I was again back in as I had him valued at $33. The bidding slowed in the high 20's and I stayed in and won him for $31, he went to UT for me. Justin Upton then went for $33, Max Kepler $35, Choo for $23 and Verdugo $22. Lots of OF guys I had hoped to get for less in there. Eddie Rosario was the highest rated OF'er I had left and I had him worth $32. The bidding was slowing in the mid 20's and I was just hoping there wasn't one guy out there who was going to push all the way up with me. In the end I got him for $28 and liked that buy.
Those 3 cost me $98 which is more than I had planned, but the two SS I was considering were gone and I had Willi Castro in my minors. After Simmons went I decided to punt SS for $1 player and hope Castro at least makes the Tigers to start. So I have $70 left at this point.
I needed OF'ers and pitchers mainly now. I sat tight for almost two rounds of tossing without buying a player. The bigger buys in that group...
Kluber 24
K Davis 27
C Santana 36
C Carrasco 21. I was in here till about 18
Eduardo Rodriguez 34
Hunter Renfroe 28
Tanaka 19, this was probably the one player in this group I put a bid on that could have won.
J Peraza 14
A Simmons 16 I did bid to 14 or 15 here I think
Nikko Goodrum 22
So I was short speed at this point and wanted to focus on getting guys who will get me 10 or more steals when I could. Brett Gardner came up and I know he is boring, but for $15 I think he will be worth it.
A fun moment of I had really misjudged value moment was me tossing Andrew Heaney hoping to get him for like 13. He went for 26. Dylan Bundy was more in my range and I bid to 15, he went for 17. Grichuk went for $19 but since he doesn't run I stayed out of it.
Manny Margot was a target for me just for the steals and the hope that he figures it out. I only paid $8 which seemed decent. I just want 18 SB's here and hope for more.
Aaron Civale was someone I thought I might get and I was hoping for 15, he went for 17. Still waiting for pitchers and adjust my money. Griffin Canning for $16 and Teheran for 14, we really had too much money and finding bargain pitchers was hard. I finally bought an SP with John Means for $10, I don't hate it but not what I had planned for. Mike Fiers went for $16 after Means so I didn't hate as much then.
I needed some K's and with what I had going in my ratios were pretty good. I targeted Spencer Turnbull just for the K's, I got him for $7.
I was now up to 6 pitchers, I wanted to get a good holds guy that would help in other categories. I targeted Tyler Duffey and got him for $6. I still needed 2 Of'ers and grabbed Alex Gordon for $9. Chris Davis at UT for $2 for pure power as I had a pretty nice BA cushion at this point. Grabbed Jacob Junis for $2 because well he is an SP with a job and not abysmal. Chad Pinder for $2 gives me some positional flexibility and he takes my last OF slot.
I now needed some pitchers for rev. Grabbed Wittgren for $3 and hope he gets plenty of holds and can keep those ratios. Asher Wojciechowski for 1 because he is starting for a team and at this point, you need a few of those. Jake Diekman $1, could be good for holds. Patrick Sandoval 1, again a pitcher that should start and you need that. Chaz Roe 1, just hoping for holds and improved ratios.
So what does this group look like...
