New NFL CBA announced on Sunday.

The league has the option to increase regular season games from 16 to 17 as early as 2021.

Playoffs can expand from 12 teams to 14 as early as the 2020 season.

When the season expands to 17 games, the preseason will be shortened from four weeks to three.

How will the opponent for the 17th game be determined?

It’s elegant with 16 - 6 games vs your own division, 4 games vs another division of your own conference, 4 games vs a division of the other conference, and 2 games vs the corresponding finishing teams from your conference that you’re not otherwise playing. How will they decide who you get for a 17th game?
