Tonight was my anniversary. I spent too much of it debating politics here on RJ. Maybe because I begrudgingly respect so many of you and your opinions yet feel the need to defend my positions.

However, Mike--you posed my own question to me--What am I prepared to do.

After discussing thing with my wife, a 42 year old save the world hippie who is getting her advanced degrees in geophysics (to fight climate change NOT make money in Oil or State sponsored Water shit) --yeah we'll be living around fault lines and volcanos…..

She said I should put my money where my mouth is--------so I informed my employer, a local casino where I was the Tournament Director, that I was resigning effective Monday.

I will be volunteering myself to the Sanders campaign here in California statring then.

There may be a paid position eventually, but until then I am walking the walk. They had been calling me for months after my work in NV but I'd been giving them what time I could while maintaining my job.

    So I quit.

I'll keep you informed on what's happening, the blow by blow as much as I can. My Wife is on board because she's a Bernie gal, she shares some (not all) of my views though she's even more liberal than I.

I may have to ask for $20 bucks for food down the road, but fuck it.

For those who think I'm full of shit, please feel free to call Ocean's Eleven Casino in Oceanside Cali and ask if I work there anymore.

Again, thank you for inspiring me and If I end up in Sander's Cabinet--It's your damn fault.
If I whisper my wicked marching orders into the ether with no regard to where or how they may bear fruit, I am blameless should a broken spirit carry those orders out upon the innocent, for it was not my hand that took the action merely my lips which let slip their darkest wish. ~Daniel Devereaux 2011

It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

I admire your dedication to your principles, but I also hope you and your wife have what you need to be secure. I assume with your experience and skills set that you will be able to get back into your profession once you want to? My field is really competitive and jobs are scarce, so I would be too afraid to walk from my current position. I would worry I would not be able to find a comparable job down the line. If that is not a worry for you, I can understand this move more. I do hope it works out.

Thanks for all the well wishes, yeah I might be insane, but we were talking--she left her old gig (was a professional costume designer) to follow her dream of saving the planet--It's been truly inspiring to watch her transform herself into someone who's following her passion rather than just doing what she's good at because it pays well. As for me--Yeah, I can get a job at my current position and salary pretty quickly--I have an excellent reputation in the field and my resume will get me hired on it's own, but like my wife, though I'm good at it--it's never been my passion.

The Sanders thing is something I'll be excited about, but it's a finite gig. I'm using it as a transition to position myself to do things I really enjoy--if I can make any kind of living at them, it's how I'll proceed.

Finances? Nah we're going to struggle, but I've outlined my finances pretty clearly on this site--It'll be tight, but we don't need much.

The Sanders gig should be interesting maybe I'll find out I really don't like the guy--probably not Primaries are upon us so I don't know how much more I can do than I'm already doing, but now I can do it full time for the next 2 weeks.

If I were down there, I'd like to think I'd be doing the same, but that's a huge sacrafice.

You're amazing, living your ideals. All my best to you and your wife!

I fell better knowing you can get back into your career if needed. I hope this path brings you to more fulfilling work, but it is nice too have that safety net.

I agree with this, I worried about your career. Glad to hear you have the resume to get back in if the political operative career doesn't take.

                  Much respect.

I remember that you have daughters. How old are they now? and how dependent on you?

Good luck on your passionate adventure and get as much out of is as possible.

Day 1. Training for "Getting out the Vote" ahead of March 3rd. Not much left to do here in Cali but Canvasing and Phone banking. They are having a Karaoke night tonight LOL (Last time in NV Bernie's people hired a DJ and brought in Pizzas and soda/water during the caucuses) I don't know how much of a difference I'll make, but I DID have a cool conversation with my Brother last night (Trump 2020 and 2016) He's not in love with sanders platform, but he does respect him and his first comment was--man the Dems are really going hard after your guy aren't they?

No Karaoke for me, but looking forward to getting out tomorrow and dragging people into my SUV just so I can drag them back out if they say no to my obviously very persuasive conversation skills. :P

Both graduated, in college and out on their own. I wouldn't be able to do this if it were otherwise.

Great for them and you, but I've been in Vegas twice in the last two-plus months and have been at Ellis Island three times--and I miss doing karaoke with you and the rest of your bunch!

As for quitting the poker gig to work on a campaign, I wish I had that much belief in any candidate, but alas, I am somewhat old and very discouraged. I don't see anyone on the political landscape who is worth the effort--or the loss of company-paid health insurance. Maybe after my hoped-for retirement in about three years...

Yeah we haven't been in vagas since my daughter graduated last year. But if you ever get out to San Diego!

I'm only working on the campaign until the General, right now everything is about tomorrow. (Super Tuesday) I'm also getting back into the Theatre, have auditions for a few shows and only book pro gigs. I will also be starting to finish my Counselling degree at UCSD (I started a while back, but got sidetracked with family stuff) Should take me another year to finish up, then I'll be totally o0ut of the Casino biz (I'm good at it, but it's honestly not healthy for me) I don't know if full time Political person is my gig either, but I'll have a few months to get the taste of it should there be an offer down the road.
