  • Early Keeper Help

Hey, guys...I'm coming out of hibernation for some keeper help. Kind of a unique league -- 10-team, H-to-H mixed, standard 5x5 offense plus 2B & BB. Pitching is QS, L, K, ERA, WHIP and SV+HLD. Only keep one..they count against their Round noted below. Leaning towards someone on offense, given their extra stat category and the more randomness of pitching. Thoughts...Thanks!

    6 - Vladdy
    7 - Eloy Jimenez
    10 - V.Robles

    7 - S.Strasburg
    11 - L.Castillo
    12 - J.Hader
    17 - C.Morton

Keep Eloy, no doubt at all.

Yeah, Eloy in the 7th is pretty sweet.

            Another vote for Eloy.

            Ottawa Triple Eh's | P.I.M.P.S. | 14 team keep forever
            Champions 16,21 | Runner up 17,19-20

The FOS (retired) | MTARBL | 12 team AL 5x5
            Champions 01,05,17 | Runner up 13-15,20

Looks like its unanimous with Eloy (at this point). Was on the fence between him and Vlad... Thanks for the responses.

I like Vlad a bit better with 2bs and walks but the round difference leans towards Eloy

Yes, the round difference and the fact Eloy has more major league ABs so 2020 seems to be his year to explode. It is close, though.

Shouldn't Stras be in heavy consideration here?

Under normal circumstances, yes. But this is essentially a 7x6 league, so hitting is much more valuable, IMO.

Right, but it's also H2H which means you could (and should) punt categories.

Not to continue beating the same dead horse here, but I was out of town over the weekend. Now that I'm back, with access to some additional resources, my thoughts are even more extreme in the Strasburg camp.

Eloy gives you just 3 categories really, he'll contribute positively in HR, RBI, R. He's well below average in BB, no SB, and he does not hit many doubles (yet). The high K rates have kept his avg down as well. You can hope for improvement in both 2B and avg, but even moving those to league average (from a fantasy standpoint) he's still behind Strasburg.

In an extremely shallow league like this (10 team mixed), I think the answer is always to keep just the best player you have regardless of round, and in this case that's Strasburg.

Stras in the 7th seems like a coup!

Great discussion, guys...thanks for everyone's input. My initial thought through the offseason was to keep either Vlad, Eloy or Stras. Not too much has changed at this point, but I wanted to mention that daily lineups consist of each infield position, 3 OF and a UTIL. On the pitching side, the starting lineup consists of 3 SP and 2 RP. Does that make any difference?
