And Pomeranz was just activated from the IL today.

So, will the Padres closer be Pagan, Pomeranz, or Rosenthal?

Drew will get the first shot and then Trevor and then Pegan.

        • Workman has allowed 2 ER, 9 H, and 4 BB in 4.3 lackluster innings for the Phillies so far.

but fear not, he has the CLOSER tag and he'll keep it (much to my chagrin). Neris with a second straight 1-2-3 inning today, but the GM likes his shiny new toy.

            Is Pegan Pagan's nickname?

              • Josh Hader WTF!

Five walks (no hits again) to blow the save!

It would have been six walks if Cole Tucker didn't swing and miss at ball four on a full count.

                • why anyone ever swings at any pitches by Hader or Chapman, among others - especially the first couple of batters - is a mystery to me.

they never seem to throw 3 strikes before their 4th ball - and if they do, well, then you're dead that night anyway.

get some guys on base, get ahead in the count, and maybe somebody's bat lands on the ball and you win.

Karinchak. only watched a few games but it's like being drunk in a dart league where every throw is as hard as you can. and as a result you are just high every throw. sure his delivery is quick but that's why he is inaccurate. but that's the way the game is. the batter is guessing on two pitches... or one pitch.

it's silly. they know they are getting a fastball just not the location. if it continues perhaps we'll see batters becoming one hit specialists.

there's no way Karinchak should be as successful as he is. he's a disaster waiting to happen.

Closermonkey says Rosenthal will close right away.

They think he was acquired to close. How do you rank the Padres' pen?

You're closer than anyone to the Pads, but Pomeranz was aquired to be a set-up guy, I'm guessing that they'd like to put him back in that role...why do you say they'd put Rosenthal there instead?

Pomerantz has yet to give up a run, has been and is, the best arm in the Padres pen even with the acquisition of Trevor. He had originally been signed to set up Yates who arguably was the best closer in baseball last season. Yates was the closer until he got hurt, but even before they found out he was, Pomerantz had started to take his place.

It'd be very surprised if Drew isn't the closer going forward.

Barring any future acquisition, Pomerantz, Rosenthal, pAgan. Don't sleep on patino who has been excellent after the first two outings he pitched. He could be used in some high leverage spots as well
