  • How much is speed worth.

Suppose three MI plus one ringer

    Player A: .294/.350/.499, 700 PA, 24 HR, 16 SB
    Player B: .275/.342/.457, 706 PA, 24 HR, 40 SB
    Player C: .260/.289/.422, 698 PA, 15 HR, 64 SB
    Player D: .236/.376/.347, 670 PA, 14 HR, 66 SB

How much does the speed bump players B, C, and D?

Those 24 SBs are the difference between 2nd and 12th in the SB category in my 16-teamer. That could be the difference between winning and finishing out of the money. So in this era of a lack of speed, it’s a huge difference.

I agree with Revo. I'm seriously considering keeping a $6 Mallex Smith despite his putrid batting average this season. I'm hoping that he seeks out a hitting coach in the off-season to help him rebound next year. He's still just 26 years old. He needs to change something soon before he ends up as reserve outfielder like Billy Hamilton.

This is Villar vs. Albies, correct? If that's the case I would project Villar as a late second rounder and Albies as a fourth rounder in 2020.

as noted, those extra SB are enormous - assuming you have a standard team.

if you have no speed and expect to get little and are almost punting the category, the value of the SB drops. same if you have 2 or 3 other top 10 SB guys.

but for 90+ pct of teams, gimme the 40 SB and I'll surrender more AVG than that to get it

These are Albies and Villar respectively.

What we talking, 1 or 2 rounds, maybe 20 places in the rankings?

also OBA is the same - so that makes the difference even more substantial

I added a MI player, projected to a full season. This one is a GG caliber SS so if he's healthy he plays. The other is Rickey Henderson age 40.

I suspect Mondesi is the projection. I believe he is still underrated.
