  • Javier Baez fractured thumb 9-7-19

Javier Baez has been diagnosed with a hairline fracture in his left thumb.

Baez underwent an MRI exam on Saturday morning which revealed the unfortunate diagnosis. He's set to visit a hand specialist on Monday to determine how much time he'll be forced to miss with the injury. It's a devastating blow to both the Cubs and to fantasy owners who were counting on Baez to play a major role over the final month of the regular season. He may be done for 2019.

Crap, i just knew it was bad as soon as i heard he injured his thumb on a head first slide. Even a hit by pitch on the thumb would have probably been less severe. The Cubs were able to delay the bad news because there is no IL in September. But, after Baez was unable to play for several days it became more and more obvious to everyone that it was a more serious injury than the Cubs initially indicated.
