  • quietest 30 game hit streak ever?

whit merrifield is on a 30 gamer and nobody seems to notice!

  • #2
It's actually 29 games -- 30 is the mark that many start to really notice -- and I think it's because it spans across two seasons. No buildup, no one knew it existed, and some pundits are critical of a hit streak across two seasons.

30 games is the club record, held by George Brett. It is not quiet in Royal-land.

He tied Brett’s 30-game streak with a hit in his first AB.

Brett did this the year he chased .400. He hit .390 that year, still the best since Ted Williams hit .406 in 1941, coincidentally the year of Dimaggio's 56 game streak.

Next on the streak list is a list of eight modern players with 31, most recently Vlad Guerrero in 1999. Next up in this century is Dan Uggla with 33 in 2011.

The longest multi-years streak is 45 by Willie Keeler in 1896-97. The longest multi-year streak in the modern era is Jimmy Rollins' 38 in 2005-06. Merrifield is already tied for top-10 on the multi-year list. The air gets thin quickly from this point onward.

He got an infield single on his 4th AB. Streak now at 31.

He's tied with 10 others at #25. One more game and he pushes them all out of the top 25. In this century, there are only four others, three in the period 2002 to 2006. So, Top 5 already.

I guaranteed it won't be quiet now.

well, Brad Boxberger's trying to get this game into extra innings ...
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

Haniger ties the game with 2 out in the 9th. Royals will bat at least one more time.

Well if you are going to end a hitting streak, at least going 0-6 you know you had every shot at it.

No IBB. That's a plus. I wonder if he was swinging at everything.
