For some they are useless. Projections are one tool of many to use.

It's like a nail gun, in the right hands it helps you build a house. In the wrong hands it sends you to the ER with a nail sticking out of your foot.

It's rotolab, which uses Baseball HQ (Shandler) projections, so YMMV. And, no, no replacement value is taken into account. That's one reason why you have to take it with a huge grain of salt.

I use it for rough guidance during the auction - it shows available players, pricing, positions, tiers, who has what positions filled, etc. And it shows me my progress toward goals. I've tailored the inputs so that it's pretty good at reflecting prices that folks typically pay in RJEL (I use different parameters for my main league, which is much deeper and has different dynamics and personalities).

I used to do this with all my own custom-written software, but I got tired of all the work that I had to put into it every year, so started using rotolab. I'm not enamored with many of Shandler's projections, but at least as a rough guide they're mostly OK. If you forced me to, I'd probably put the standard deviation on total points at +-10 or so (remember that's one-sigma). And of course injuries, role changes, etc., as the season progresses makes all of this useless at some point...

I'd be curious to see the overall standings with your projections? I always like other viewpoints .

Ditto for this one - do you have projected totals and standings for the league? I'm curious .

you would be shocked at how little preparation or tools I use. All I had was a spreadsheet with the projected hitting numbers for my team that I filled in as I took players. I didn't adjust prices for what categories I was doing well in except in my head, I didn't do anything for pitching, and I certainly didn't have anything for other teams.
In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.

Sounds like me at my league auction. Been pretty successful too!
