got what I take to be a whimsical offer from a rival trying to stuff 10 pounds of keeper shit into a 5 pound keeper bag:

    own picks 1, 2, 5, 6, 9 in April 2022 1st-rd farmhand draft
    won in 2017 15 07 05 04 02 93 90 84

    SP SGray 16, TWalker 10, AWood 10, Price 3, KH Kim 2, Corbin 10

this guy has a lot of extra bodies.

how about this for Harper 41-O: 3 or 4 out of McNeil 10, Panik 10, Camargo 1, AFrazier 6, Inciarte 21, Verdugo 5, Lucchesi 4, and a farm pick

high inflation league, so getting players at value is worth something

Me too. Stripling is better than any of those guys he just offered you. If inflation is high and you don't have any other high $ players, I just don't see the point in trading Harper for a bag of magic beans. Harper has real value.

              I agree with this.

              I am keeping Harper.

I would probably keep Wood. His injury seems minor and he could be back in mid-April. Are you really going to do better than a dart on Knebel for $2 for your last spot? Especially since you have Jeffress?

this is a good back-and-forth, because two things are in play - price and opportunity cost.

we have no benches, so I only have nine pitching slots to fill (though I can reserve replace guys on DL right after the auction).

if I keep 5 pitchers (3 on DL, no less), that only leaves 4 main-draw buys in the entire auction. if I like a couple of prices early, I'm down to TWO slots maybe before mid-auction. that may make me wince at buying Pitcher No. 8 too soon, and it may leave me eye-rolling at 1-unit bargains I could have had later (I got Neris 1 and Knebel 2 in 2017 and Jeffress 1 and CSmith 1 in 2018, for example).

I'd likely prefer to toss Wood back, and if I buy him at 7-S2, for 2 units I get up to two additional years at that price.

I hold two things more precious than most: Rotisserie roster spaces, and NFL second-half timeouts. I think I'm on the right side of history on both.

I'd toss Wood back. He gave up enough ding-dongs in LA, and now he is in Great American Small Park. I wouldn't be too worried about getting him back at auction, either.

so I don't got Wood - is that good?

freeze lists are out, and I didn't get the memo to keep every borderline or not-even-borderline SP possible.

frozen SPs rated below Alex Wood, who I dumped at 5-O, who were kept for more:
                              Pivetta 10, Ray 17, Gray 13, Eflin 10, Chacin 10, Matz 10, Godley 10, Freeland 10, Wacha 10, AnSanchez 10, Teheran 11, TWilliams 7

5-unit bums kept include Weaver and Newcomb.

that's 14 out of roughly 66 SP slots clogged by mostly shaky keeps. 20 other SPs were kept, so half the SPs already are gone.

no regrets on dumping Wood. he's in a nice, middlin' FA cluster with Stripling, Archer, Paddack, Quintana, Hill, Lester, Strahm, and Darvish.

they can't all go for 15! (well, Paddack will for sure).

Now I must walk out of Sunday's auction with at least one of Kershaw, Strasburg, or Hendricks. my freeze list is too weak to spend 50 on Scherzer or 40 on Thor, and 6th-best SP is Bumgarner - and Maeda and Arrieta are next after that.

I expect to die on either the Kershaw hill (again) or Strasburg hill. half the league has been disappointed by Strasburg, but I've never owned him. they also seem terrified of Kershaw - which makes sense with a great freeze list but if not, dice must be rolled.

looked closer before my noon auction tomorrow - in more ways than one.
I want to bid up to 20 or so on Robertson or Miller, but my keeper list just isn't good enough to justify it - probably.

I count something like 12 available INFs worth 20+ and another 17+ worth double digits.
                                in OF, it's 3 and 15.

so I'll try to spend on one good SP, and then toss most of the rest of the money around the INF. only 'clogged' 1-2-3-S spot I have is Marte, and I can move him to OF if need be.

with the Harper freeze, I can't get a Freeman, Baez, Arenado, or Machado. so I'll look to find 75 pct of the production at 50 pct of the buying price, over and over.

my worst freeze list in many years, thanks to loss of my Knebel at 2 units (thankfully before freeze time) - but hope springs eternal!
