I know you guys have your abstract thoughts on the philosophy of legalizing prostitution, but not sure this is the hill you want to die on:

"If it were legalized and thoughtfully regulated, the women would ultimately be far better protected."

NOT THESE WOMEN. you think these traffickers give a rat's ass what's legal and what isn't? you think they'd be signing up their slaves for green card and health benefits?

Martin County Sheriff says the women involved in human trafficking ring were given no days off. They averaged about 1,500 men a year. He says their hygiene was “minimal” at best

I think that the primary goal of legalization is to remove the traffickers from the industry. It doesn't seem like the state of Nevada has had any major problems with legalized prostitution. Perhaps they are the model of success that other states can copy.

maybe the traffickers need to take remedial classes, because they don't seem to be getting that message (prostitution is not legal in Las Vegas proper, but if legalization mattered at all to ruthless traffickers, might not Nevada seem like less than the ideal state to do business? underage sex trafficking is the real issue, and suburban legalization doesn't seem relevant to being any 'model' there)

        https://lasvegassun.com/news/2018/fe...-in-las-vegas/

"The National Human Trafficking Hotline released a survey ranking the most populous cities in terms of hotline calls by aggregating their data from 2007 to 2016. The report was released last fall. Las Vegas ranked in the top 10 for both the total amount of calls made to the hotline and calls per capita."

Nevada left the traffickers an out by keeping it illegal in Las Vegas. That's why i said there doesn't seem to be a problem with the legal version which is available in the Nevada brothels outside of Las Vegas. Of course there are problems galore with the illegal version available by way of the overly friendly Las Vegas casino girls. But the demand for the illegal version can be decreased by making the legal version available. Nevada is very telling. Nevada outside of Las Vegas = legal = fewer problems. Las Vegas = illegal = more problems.

wait, you think that if Las Vegas had legal prostitution, the sex trafficking there would go away?

do you also think there are few illegal bookmakers there?

The sex traffickers would most likely see a sharp decrease in their business and it would suddenly become less profitable for them with decreased demand.

man, I would love to live in such a world.

that's not how it works, alas. it's a rough real world out there.

is there a separate question about further legalization? sure, that's a reasonable debate.

but like I said, this case doesn't look like the hill anyone should want to die on. from the preliminary reports, this appears to be the really scary kind that doesn't care about laws and never will. and they benefit from those who get distracted by a partially academic analysis of social policy.

there are monsters under some beds.

I know that's not how it works. That's how this whole discussion about making changes got started in the first place.

Now that we've completed that circle, who is the reportedly "bigger name" on the list of Johns busted along with Robert Kraft?

Li Yang, the founder of the chain of Asian day spas where Kraft was caught allegedly paying for sex from trafficked women, is a regular donator to several well known Republican politicians. You may recognize this guy pictured with Li Yang (aka Cindy Yang) at his West Palm Beach Country Club Super Bowl party:
