Back when we were in the Twilight of the Tsar, I suggested Letter, Decade, then a Combo Draft.

Franchise and Decade draft sounds new (and also a bit weird, but not in a bad way). We may have once done a straight Franchise draft, and 1 or 2 Letter / Franchise Combo drafts.

Ken's wizardry should allow us to easily build any sheet we want.

    Anyway ... whatever ...

That is, the more people who post what they'd like to see in the next draft, the easier it'll be to democratise the process.

2 people have signalled an interest in Franchises.

    I like franchises.
Do we have any past franchise drafts?
I assume best year would have to be on the franchise you choose them on (unlike position where you can take a guy the year he's a DH but you can put him at 1B if he qualified there over his career for example).

We'll also need to work out the franchise trees. The Yankees are easy, but the Twins/Rangers/Senators/Nationals/Expos stuff gets complicated. There might be a resource that shows that without us figuring out, I haven't researched it yet.

Yes, we have done several franchise drafts, but usually letter and franchise combination drafts.

Franchises don't have the same even spread as letter (last name) or decades, so it's more uneven. First name also has an uneven distribution of players.

Some form of franchise seems an early favourite.

We have done the franchise trees before. I'm sure we can find that data. KS probably has all that in his archives.

    This probably helps:

I see the 30 current teams and their ancestors + 22 defunct teams + the St. Louis Brown Stockings could be considered either defunct or as a precursor to the Cardinals.

We also arbitrarily pooled some of the older franchises from defunct leagues. ONA was Other National Association I think. OEF was other Eastern franchise.

We put a lot of work into this. If we can find it, which shouldn't be hard, we can just copy that structure.
