  • My Little PONY Keeper List

Quite a mess of possibilities here.

$260, 23-man roster (2 catchers), standard 5x5, 15-team league. Can keep up to 10. Inflation tends to run 25% or so, somewhat higher on the high-end players.

Guaranteed contracts, must keep. I could pay $10 auction money to drop them. So no dropping Bird but maybe I should consider Familia?

    1 -1B Greg Bird $6 g19
    2- RP Jeurys Familia $11 g19
    3- OF George Springer $15 g19

And then I need up to 7 of these:

    OF David Peralta $1 o20
    OF Mallex Smith $1 o19
    OF Josh Reddick $1 o19
    OF Hunter Renfroe $10 o20

    SS Tim Anderson $8 o20
    IF Marwin Gonzalez $5 o19

    SP Miles Mikolas $5 o20
    SP Kyle Gibson $1 o20
    SP Andrew Heaney $8 o20
    SP Luis Castillo $5 o19

    1B Freddie Freeman $41 o19
    3B Anthony Rendon $38 o20
    SP Max Scherzer $51 o20

    RP Jose Alvarado $5 o20
    RP Pedro Strop $1 o20

So if you drop Familia you would basically save $1 in auction money, right? So I would drop him.

    My choices in bold:

    OF David Peralta $1 o20
    OF Mallex Smith $1 o19

    OF Josh Reddick $1 o19
    OF Hunter Renfroe $10 o20

    SS Tim Anderson $8 o20
    IF Marwin Gonzalez $5 o19

    SP Miles Mikolas $5 o20
    SP Kyle Gibson $1 o20
    SP Andrew Heaney $8 o20
    SP Luis Castillo $5 o19

    1B Freddie Freeman $41 o19
    3B Anthony Rendon $38 o20
    SP Max Scherzer $51 o20

    RP Jose Alvarado $5 o20
    RP Pedro Strop $1 o20

I think I'd keep Heaney or Castillo over Strop. Otherwise I agree.

What would Scherzer go for if he was back in?

If I could get him back for close to the 51, I might use the spot for another player.

Mith this is not Spinal Tap you went to 11!

I was thinking Heaney or Castillo over Scherzer depending on what he answers.

Strop would be my drop to make the roster 10.

If he drops Familia wouldn't he need 8 more?

$51 is what he went last year. I'd guess he'd go in the 50-55 range this season.

Yes, I'd save a buck AND I'd get an extra spot. I was planning on sucking it up but now that I actually write it down, I think tossing him back makes extra sense.

Thanks guys. I may be a little too enamored of the cheap pitchers (Castillo, Heaney, Gibson)

I think right now I'd drop Familia and go in with:

                    1 -1B Greg Bird $6 g19
                    2- OF George Springer $15 g19
                    3-OF David Peralta $1 o20
                    4- OF Mallex Smith $1 o19
                    5-SS Tim Anderson $8 o20 (ADP 130)
                    6-SP Miles Mikolas $5 o20 (ADP 93)
                    7-SP Luis Castillo $5 o19 (ADP 113)
                    8-1B Freddie Freeman $41 o19 (ADP 21)

I think I'd lean Freeman over Rendon so I guess that's #8, don't want to go in too cheap and get killed by inflation. That makes $92 in keepers/penalties for the first 8. I could concievably add Scherzer and still have some money to spend.

So that leaves me (realistically) with 2 of:

                    SP Max Scherzer $51 o20 (ADP 6)
                    RP Jose Alvarado $5 o20 (ADP 168 )
                    RP Pedro Strop $1 o20 (ADP 285)

                    SP Kyle Gibson $1 o20 (ADP 267)
                    SP Andrew Heaney $8 o20 (ADP 160)
                    3B Anthony Rendon $38 o20 (ADP 43)

I've added ADPs for all of them. Seems like there's a lot of love for Alvarado. Jason has good things to say as well.

I would keep Scherzer for sure. And probably Alvarado.

I agree on Scherzer and Alvarado, but I am not as sure about releasing Familia as others. He's a $1 keeper for you. If he's more than a $1 guy, you need to decide whether Familia for $1 is better than your last keeper. Given that you would want to keep Strop as well as Alvarado and Scherzer, you probably do want to cut him, but it doesn't seem so cut and dried to me. Heck, if Familia at $1 or Strop at $1 (could easily be the Cubs closer) is better than Bird at -$4, then cut Bird.

                          Familia is $11.

cavebird is (correctly) referring to opportunity cost here. $11 to keep vs $10 to release means he costs you only $1 in relative terms to keep.
