sure why not. bestball is fine for now.
Bob- I'm not exactly sure it would ROCK as you say it Byron.. it may be cool, by typical text book descriptions. Your opinion of this is shallow and poorly constructed, but allow me to re-craft your initial thought into something tangable.

is there a reason we are going with a wonky scoring system instead of straight 5x5 roto?

Can't have both straight roto with best ball.

I think I'll probably pass this year. Not too interested in points.

All the points are for is to use the standings in the league -- which we wouldn't be using if we didn't make it a real league.

So either we can scrap the league entirely and just make this a mock, or we use the BestBall scoring system FanTrax has and you just don't have to check the league during the season!

Technically you "could", but I don't know that a software platform exists that would do that.
Basically you could allow the owners to put weights on categories (similar to points above), and let that drive the weekly lineup decisions, but at the same time keep the standings based on the roto categories in the roto format.

Probably worth having a quick discussion about the goal of the mock. If the goal of the mock is to represent a roto draft, then I'll draft differently than if it represents a bestball league you are trying to win.

I would hope that we can just have everyone draft roto style and just have the best ball points league there for grins afterwards like you proposed above.

                        Sure I'm in.
If DMT didn't exist we would have to invent it. There has to be a weirdest thing. Once we have the concept weird, there has to be a weirdest thing. And DMT is simply it.

As someone who started out in points, with a system me and the commish made up that is shockingly similar to the fantrax scoring (we give 1 pts for doubles, 2 for triples too, only 2 per SB, and give and take 2pts per K and run scored instead of 1.5 for pitchers), I just want to make a general pitch to all you point haters to maybe consider trying it at some point. The pitch is you can still do overall point accumulation and standings the same way you do roto, and the main benefit, to me, is that it more accurately reflects real world baseball values (by de-emphasizing steals and wins). To me, that makes it easier as a baseball fan, as you are not drafting obviously inferior specialists to win categories. It is a different strategy, of course, but for those who haven't tried it, it can be quite fun to focus on total points, no matter how you get them, rather than cats.

Don't be afraid to try something new! When we first started with our points league over 20 years ago, virtually no one was doing them. I'm happy to see point leagues carve out a niche now.

we are still missing a bunch of people that need to sign up, there is going to be a ton of autodrafting which takes away much of the value of the mock.

I am a bit confused though why we didn't set up a normal roto league

Yeah, we don't have enough participants just yet.

As far as the normal roto league, we can't have that and do it best ball. We have some here who want to play it out, others here who don't. A Best Ball concept is best, as this way you don't have to do anything but can still pay attention throughout the season to how you fared.

I'm going to jump in after all, it seems most of my leagues are collapsing this year and I'm really jonesing for any kind of a fix. Not that I expect to get any value out of drafting a roto team against other owners trying for points/ best ball, but at least it's a draft
