For some obscure reasons involving keeper rules, I will likely want to pay the option on one of the following. Based solely on what we can expect in 2019 and 2020, which one would you want?

16 teams - starting 22 with bench of 8. OBA and Holds.

    Mychal Givens
    Austin Riley
    Lucas Giolito
    Greg Holland
    Ryan O'Hearn
    Teoscar Hernández
    Ervin Santana
    Scott Kingery

Possibly stash Riley on the bench. If he gets traded he could be up fairly early.

actually not that convinced, given peripherals, but his upside is the biggest and he has so much experience

OK. Given the dice roll situation, that fits.

I just realized I can throw Scott Kingery in the mix. I doubt that changes things for anyone, but there it is.

Does this mean that there is a separate category for holds or a saves + holds category? If it is the latter, definitely forget about the closers, they aren't worth enough in those leagues. If the former, I would think Givens is the safest bet; he more or less has the job already, and the O's have no reason to ditch him quickly. The rest of them look pretty ugly. Holland scares me because he needs both a job and to not suck. O'Hearn might give some production since he seems to have the job and no reason to be dislodged.

Separate categories for holds and saves. I remember you were high on Givens last spring. He didn't work out last year.

O'Hearn was on my list for exactly that reason. I was thinking similar things about Kingery. Either would be a cheap cut, but have value if they perform at least minimally.

Kingery isn't a bad cheap add, either. Same with Givens. He may suck, he may not. Tough with such small sample sizes for relievers. At least, even as a closer, he can't have much pressure on that team, lol. But yeah, he's burnt me before, too.

                      Teoscar Hernández
                      Ervin Santana
Hernandez, I like his power in an improving lineup.

Givens is on a horrible team and a trade risk. And his k9 isn't great.
Riley is blocked for now unless Donaldson gets hurt again.
I like Giolito but I wouldn't bet much on his 2019.
Who knows where Holland ends up and I have doubts after his awful start last year.
Even if O'Hearn plays his run/rbi will stink. OBA should be solid though.
If let Santana prove healthy before extending.

If I was rolling the dice today it would be:

O'Hearn- I still like power and we are an OBP league

Givens- I like cheap saves for my second closer.

Which one would depend on my roster and what is available in the draft.

Teo really burned me last season (ditto Kingery), but I see your point. All these guys have big ugly warts.

As a practical matter, RP is the easiest thing to acquire but I also have nothing at all coming over. So that cuts both ways.

That's an odd one for me, what line were you expecting from Teoscar such that he burned you in 2018? I think he exceeded reasonable expectations.

Perhaps in playing time and HR. I was looking for a player with both power and speed, hopefully with a better than average BA. The .236 BA was a bit rude, but the 5 SB was a shock. At least he played regularly.

Looking at his season again, you should realize how much of his season was in April. He went .306/.377/.677 with 4 HR, 11 RBI. The rest of his season was .229/.291/.437, 18 HR, 4 SB. His April got him out of the splinter brigade but the actual contributions sucked.

I agree, he is better than my knee jerk would have him but I might be more inclined to take a chance on Scott Kingery. That said, Teo's ADP is north of #250. At that price, I'll try again.
