It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

Or Manny. Pure salary dump. They're also cutting Bailey.

has to be a big dump. Puig, Kemp, and Wood are all free agents after this year. Bailey has $23M due him in 2019 (LOL!) and a $5M buyout of his 2020 year.

Interesting play by Cinci to take on all this salary.

They almost have a respectable rotation now ...

        Luis Castillo
        Alex Wood
        Anthony DeSclafani
        Tanner Roark

I don't think this makes the Reds legitimately competitive, but it does make them worth going to see. Hopefully Puig's agent is in his ear, telling him how many home runs he can hit in that park, in a contract year.

Besides the obvious potential for a bigger signing (Bailey apparently has a luxury tax value of $17.5M vs his salary of $23M), does this perhaps reflect a real belief in Max Muncy?

It sure would seem that way. But if they don't they have weakened their team.

I cant process this trade. This is a bonanza for cin. Puig is a stud. Wood is a number 2 on most staffs. Kemp is comeback player of year. Assuming this is all for harper.... Is harper really that much an upgrade over puig. Never mind the 400 million contract it's going to take to sign Harper.

My head hurts. This mass talent prize given to cin doesnt make sense for the i would guess 1 war differential of harper over puig in 2019. I like puig and think he may be worth near Harper. This makes more sense if we are talking making room for Corey kluber who makes dodgers staff the premiere in league.

well, Jeter (Downs) ironically is considered to be unable to play a legit SS in the majors, but HQ has him as the Reds' No. 5 prospect. headed to High A in 2019 at age 20, seen as a 2B with 20-20 potential. he was a 2017 first-round pick
