  • I'm not thrilled with the phillies pick either. Was coming on to say as much hoping you would correct me.

Don't know a ton about the guy - picked near where everyone seemed to value him, pretty much one year (outlier?) with big power, tons of patience.

I don't like him where the industry valued him but I don't hate him. I graded him a 40 hit, 50 power. That should be good enough to make the big leagues, but not really the star you're hoping for out of your first pick.

He kind of dives forward with his upper half early in his stride and then disconnects his hands from his torso rotation, both of which I think are going to hurt his game power against better pitching.

It's possible the Dodgers can fix this. Wallenbrock/Van Soyoc and company know what they're doing.

          • the phillies board I read seemed to like the kid the Nats picked better than the phillies pick.

segura fell down on the play... it was an ugly swing. I think he tried to recover and run it out.

              Sucks.

              • Yeah, Rutledge was a solid pick. His junior college coach lives down the street from me.

What awful luck. I feel bad for McCutchen.

Eh....might want to watch the replay on that one. Obviously Segura didn't cause Cutch to become injured by he definitely Manny Machado'd his way down to 1st. It does suck. Cutch seems like a really good dude.

Well, it's discouraging to hear that from you but hopefully LA saw something fixable in there. Regardless, appreciate your insight. It's super cool to converse with someone of your expertise about these kinds of things!
