Slim...but I think one is a fairly safe bet.
If DMT didn't exist we would have to invent it. There has to be a weirdest thing. Once we have the concept weird, there has to be a weirdest thing. And DMT is simply it.

      Maybe by trading them?

I agree with Gregg - if you are looking for high upside long term, you have good lotto tickets there (TINSTAAPP). If you want reliable pitchers for 2020, you have great trade bait to pull a couple in.

        • I'll have the first pick in our farmhand draft next April for only the second time in 30+ years.

the first time I passed on Mark Prior so I could instead enjoy the wonder that was ..... Nick Neugebauer.

          I chose poorly.

I saw one end-of-season prospect list, and no one in the top 60 (so roughly 30 NL players) was unowned.
which is pretty typical - we go 2 rounds in April and one in June after the MLB draft.

I have 5 1/2 months to make my pick - but given that all the usual suspects are gone already, is he the early leader in the clubhouse?

It depends on who else is available, but Luciano could be a top 10 prospect in a couple of years. Super young and far away though.

                    • JJ - for what it’s worth, I have a feeling Sánchez could be a steal from that list. Sure there’s risk, but I think he produces value sooner than many others and if things break right it could be solid production.

                      • thanks, Sharky.
outside chance I can get Sanchez with the 13th pick (9th on the MLB board of availables, and usually an owner or three will take a guy who is nearly ready to be promoted over a longterm play).

with only HRamos and Baty as top 100s out of my 6 farmhands, I could trade the top pick for a bundle. one owner picks 4th and 16th, has 3 of the 12 June picks, and has 10 farmhands. by April 16, he can only have 8 farmhands - so even not dealing with June yet, he's in a crunch. BRodgers might be his only prospect to make Opening Day roster and clear a slot.

                        • Interesting. Would like to hear your rules regarding minor leaguers (how many, when, callup/salary, traceability, etc). I don’t love how we handle minors players.

                          • 8 maximum after the April 15 2-round draft, so you can't draft a guy there if he would be your 9th.

order of both rounds is based on previous year's finish. in order: 6th-7th-8th-9th-10th-11th-12th-5th-4th-3rd-2nd-1st.

also a 1-round June draft, based on standings on morning of June 15.

farmhands are 5-S2 until the year AFTER they lose their rookie status.

farmhands who don't reach the majors until Sept 1 don't have to be activated. otherwise, you have 8-14 days to do so.

if a farmhand gets activated during the season but doesn't lose rookie status (130 MLB AB, 50 MLB IP), then he can return to the farm.

in-season FAs are 10-S2 EXCEPT they are 20-S2 after Sept 1. this prevents late-season poaching of potential farmhands.

                            • What do you do if a guy has rookie status but might make the majors roster? If auction is well before opening day, can you keep him as a minors guy? Currently to protect him in our league, you have to keep him as a major leaguer that year. If not and he makes the opening roster, you lose him. Stupid rule imo.

                              • for many years we drafted the morning of Opening Day, so such status was clarified.
now we draft a few days later, so no issues.

if the auction is well before opening day, it usually makes little sense to keep all but the studliest of farmhands. even if they make the team, they may not go for more than 5 (or 10) anyway. expect a demotion, and if not, you can get them back cheaper.
